HP LaserJet P1102w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a new HP computer running Win 10. I have an old HP LaserJetP1102w and the CD that came with it is not readable by my new HP computer. I need to get a new CD or somehow (and I have tried and tried) to get the printer to run wireless from the new Win 10 system. I have tried every download from the internet. I have changed IP address of the printer. Nothing asks me, or lets me make this printer wireless. Printer works fine when connected via USB.

Any ideas on how to get a new CD? that will work on Win 10?

There is apparently no way to get through to HP.

Thanks,

Pam

Hi @PamD,

Thank you for posting on HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I came across your post and wanted to assist you, I understand you are looking to purchase a CD for your HP LaserJet Printer. I'll be really glad to help you with this,

I did check online and found that there are printer drivers available for Windows 10. I would suggest you go ahead download and install the full feature software for your printer from our HP Support Website instead of purchasing the CD.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Are you getting any error message while installing the software from the internet?

Have you made any software or hardware changes on the printer/computer before the issue started?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.

Let’s try to fix this issue by doing a clean install. Follow the steps mentioned below:

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP LaserJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Click the bottom-left Start button on desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.
  • Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.
  • Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer”  – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".
  • Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.
  • Once done, close device-manger. Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Once done you can try cleaning out your temporary files and cached files. You can try using automated applications like some cleaner software's that you can download from the internet.
  • Now restart your computer again.
  • Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
  • Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
  • Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
  • Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well.
  • Click on http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL32431/bi-80329-11/hp_LJP1100_P1560_P1600_Full_Solution-v... and install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable only when prompted.

If you are still facing the issues to remove the driver, then try using a 3rd party software removal applications like "Revo uninstaller" or "Wise" to completely remove the programs.

Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi and thank you for your reply.

Following your steps exactly here is what happened.

7. I had nothing that said "printer"

I had "Print queues" but that had Samsung only, my wireless printer that Samsung installed for me remotely and it works.

8. Under "Imaging devices" I only had HP wide vision HD and I Uninstalled that. Hope I didn't need it.

11. HP LaserJet Mono was there. As I removed that here is the message that I received "failed to remove package prnhpd1.inf - but I continued

12. didn't see any cache files to delete but deleted the others

18. ran the install program as I have done with other gurus like you, followed all directions, and got this message:

The printer was able to successfully connect to the wireless network using the wireless credentials provided. However, this computer is unable to communicate with the printer.

Please verify that the printer is on the same network as this computer and, if using WEP, verify that the credentials were entered correctly and try again.

I had previously followed someones directions to change the IP of the printer to ending with 241. I deleted the spooler per someone else's instructions.

Does this printer just not work on Win 10?   This is a brand new computer. Got it Friday.

Thanks for trying to help. I appreicate it.

Pam

PS My other computer died. So I got this one. I sure wish someone would log onto my computer like Samsung did and just do this. Or let me know for sure that it won't work so I stop pounding my head against the wall. It's been 4 solid days on working on this problem. I have to get to my taxes. I'm ready to throw this P1102W out the window and just go buy another Samsung.
