HP Laserjet Pro 400
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi all,

In the past I would have the printer print on both sides of a standard paper. When selecting this option, the printer would first print one side of all sheets with the paper from tray 2, then notify me to load the printed sheets into tray 1 to complete the other half of the sheets.

Now, not only does it not prompt me to do this, when selecting double sided printing on microsoft word, Adobe pdf, and even default printer settings, the printer prints ALL pages on just 1 side of the paper.

Im not sure how to fix this issue, i tried just about everything

There are a number of models with the Pro 400 series. Assuming you have the mono 401 see the attached.

Hi,

Thanks for responding.
Yes I do have this version, and yes I've tried that option.

The issue is when i try to print multiple page documents, even after selecting "Print on both sides", the printer automatically prints every page on its own sheet.

The popup can say, for example: 40 pages, 20 sheets, but still print out 40 pages on 40 sheets.

I hope this helps clarify some of the issues I've had.

PS.

Ive tried reinstalling the driver, removing the printer from windows devices and printers and reinstalling again.

Ive tried updating all HP related software

Ive tried factory resetting the printer from the printer itself.

Ive tried printing double sided from other devices, same problem persists

I just want to be sure you read item 4 and checked the box print on both sides (manually).

Hi,

Thanks for responding.

Yes I did. It is checked. I've tried checking it when it was non-defaulted, and tried making it a default setting with no success.

To make default you need to go to devices and printers and then right click on the printer icon and scroll down to the printing preferences and left click and then choose that item and save and apply. Also make sure in the driver properties you do NOT have duplex option as installed since I do not think you can choose manual duplex if the option is marked as installed. To get to that setting you need to right click on the printer icon again and then scroll down to the first properties and then left click. Now click on advanced and make sure duplex is not installed.

Hi,

As always, thanks for responding. I really appreciate your time.

Duplex is not installed. I am aware of how to default specific settings, i was just mentioning my attempt at toggling these to repair the issue.

I have double checked with your instructions, and the printer still spits out single sided pages without prompting for a insert into tray 1.

If using the universal driver try using the model specific driver or if using the model specific driver try using the universal driver.

Hi,

Great to hear from you again.

I followed through with your suggestion. No luck 😞

What application(s) are you printing from? The reason I ask is going over all your posts to this thread I notice that at one point you said you try doing the same printing with other printers with the same result so the issue has to be the computer, driver or application. If you are choosing print on both sides from the application, perhaps you need to not choose print on both side but do it from the preferences of the print driver since the driver may be receiving conflicing commands from the program. Just a thought.
