HP M477DFW

Hello, we just setup a new HP MF477 and added a third tray.  We have legal in tray 2 and letter in tray 3.  When you fax from the device and wait for your confirmation page or if you try to print an information page it says on the screen "load paper in tray 1 or click ok to use a different tray" then when I hit ok it uses the legal paper in tray 2 instead of letter in tray 3...  So my question is how can you change tray 3 to the master default for information pages and fax job reports etc?  Now i noticed even 8.5 x 11 copies its wanting tray 1 and then it says click ok for other media and it uses legal in tray 2.... ugh

Go into Printer Properties (R-click on icon of printer, 4th line item) and make sure you "let the drivers" know it's turned on. by setting up the paper and tray features.  Many of those units are, for some reason, not automatic detectors of the paper.

HI there, if you are seeing "load paper in tray 1 or click ok to use a different tray", that means you have Tray 2 opened but without paper loaded; with Tray 1 being the 1st priority tray, followed by Tray 2 and Tray 3. in your scenario, you would probably explore to give each Tray a default paper size, in System Setup --> Paper Setup --> tray 2/Tray 3, --> choose to accept the default paper size as desired, so that each time when printing application is finding the right paper to print, it would choose the "default" tray,' supposed' to contain the right paper physically inside. Have a try first.

Right click on the  driver- Printer properties-> Device settings -> ensure the trays has respective pages selected also make sure manual feed tray 1- disabled
