When I scan or copy on this printer, I get a full page of color lines.  I have hard reset the printer, cleaned the ADF and glass with the same results.  Printing works great.

@paflyer56,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you get colored lines while scanning or copying from your HP Officejet 6500 All-in-One Printer - E709a.

This issue could occur if the scanner mechanism is defective.

However, let's go through a few steps to see if we can resolve this issue.

And here's the step by step guide for you in the link: Fixing Copy Quality Issues

If the issue still persists, please contact HP phone support for further assistance at the link: www.hp.com/contacthp

You have a good day ahead.

Everyone assumes I mean colored streaks across a scan.  not even close.  I have NOTHING but colored lines (all colors of the rainbow) across the entire 8.5x11 scan.  Same thing with a copy, a virtual rainbow of colored lines across the entire page.  It looks nothing like the picture in the URL you sent.

so it looks like service, and since the printer is "out of warranty", and my division of HPE is moving on to other pastures, I'm not sure what to do with the printer at this point.

Thank you for the link.  I have already cleaned the platter, the glass, the ADF and did a hard reset on the printer with no change in symptoms.  Guess it's time to just use it as a printer.
