HP OJ Pro 8710
macOS 10.12 Sierra
I bought the 8710 less than two weeks ago and it consistently loses connection to a USB connected Mac. In order to try and bring it back to life I try engaging the op panel to no avail. When I try to power the thing off it never shuts down. I just get a never ending circle! I end up pulling the plug every time and then it kicks back in. As a former HP employee with decades in the printer industry this is a real disappointment to see. Can you please help otherwise I will need to get this replaced.

Thanks

@rjpower

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

As I understand HP OJ Pro 8710 keeps losing connection to a USB-connected Mac and doesn't work unless it's restarted,

No worries as I'd love to help put an end to this vicious cycle, however, I need a few more details to provide an accurate solution:

Did you attempt upgrading the printer drivers and firmware?

If you haven't, here's what you need to do:

Install the latest version of your printer firmware from the HP Customer Support downloads page.

  1. Make sure the printer is on and connected to the computer, either through your local network or a USB cable.

  2. Go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then enter your printer model number.

  3. Select your operating system if required.

  4. Click Firmware, and then click Download.

    If a Firmware section is not listed, an update is not currently available for your printer.
