I have an HP Office Jet Pro 8710 connected with USB when I try to use the scan from printer screen it will show my computer (Windows 10) but when I select the computer it will tell me connection unseccessful. I can go to the app on my computer and tell it to scan and it will so I know they are comunicating. I have rebooted both computer and printer many times, switched UBS cords and checked all my connections but still wont do it. When I 1st got the printer it would do it but now it wont. Any suggestions ???

Hi,
Right click the Start button and select Run, the Run dialog appears.
Type services.msc and press OK
Locate the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service and open its properties.
Open the Dependencies tab.
Can you see the Shell Hardware Detection service listed or only the Remote Procedure Call is listed?
Click the Yes button to reply that the response was helpful or to say thanks.

Hi,
Try following these steps and let me know the results:
- Right click the Start menu and select Run.
- Type regedit and press OK.
- Right click on Computer, select Export to backup the registry prior any modification, save the backup on any known place just in case..
- Navigate to the following registry path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Services > stiscv - On the right pane, right click on DependOnService and select modify.
- Add ShellHWDetection as a 2nd value so the value would be as following:
RpcSs ShellHWDetection
- Open the WIA Service properties and ensure the 2nd service now appears.
- Restart your PC and try scanning from the printer again, may you see any difference?
Click the Yes button to reply that the response was helpful or to say thanks.

Is the sertice startues is Started?
Right click the Start icon and select Control Panel.
Type scanners into the top search box and open "view scanners and cammeras" within the results.
Double click the 8710 printer on the shown screen.
Open the Events tab.
Ensure it is set to automacally launch a program, as well ensure HP Scan is marked as the application for the event.

I did a test print to check to make sure atleast that was still good and now it is printing slow like it is doing a photo. I went back to the backed up registry, I have rebooted both and it is still doing it and it is still pinting slow.

Hi,
Please repeat my previous poss (it should already be highlighted on the stisvc service so you would only need to modify the DependOnService value.
Be sure to change it exactly as listed on step 6 by copying ad pasting the value from the shown sample, the order is crucial as the services are wrongly registered...
Next right click the start menu and select Programs and Features, uninstall the HP Officejet Pro 8710 Basic device Software and reboot your PC.
Finally, download and install the latest drivers below:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/OJ871/OJ8710_Full_WebPack_1881.exe
Please let me know the results,
Shlomi
