Hi again.  I am following up on our last conversation.  I got hold of a multi-meter and I also found the battery on the circuit board.  I took the battery out and left it out for over an hour to ensure that CMOS memory got drained.  After putting the battery back in, and trying to power on the printer, nothing happened.  I used the multi-meter to verify that I was getting 32 volts from the power module and that the battery was providing 3 volts.  Both voltages are verifed.  At this point, I am at a loss as to what to try next.  As I stated, when I plug the printer in to power, the indicator on the power module is on as well as the indicator light next to the memory slots and the scanner bar is lit up as well.  The printer is about two years old and I really would rather not have to replace the printer

Hi Greg!

I do not know how your printer looks like. On mine I could see the batterie in the front left corner on the pcb. (3 Volt flat round, about 2 cm diameter). I could see it when opening the printer top (like you do when changing cartridges), there was a small area where you could look down onto the pcb. Also the left sidecover was easy to remove and I could see it from there- but I have to say it is not easily accessible. I could remove it from its holder with a long thin screwdriver, would have to think though how to put it back. However, there is no point. I have (during tha operation) noticed black areas around two condensors on the pcb about where the phone line comes in, next to it is a small (5x5mm) square electronic chip that looks like my tooth before I went t the dentist last- it has a big crater in it. So I think that's the death warrant for my printer, I can not get it repaired where I am. NOT HAPPY! I ahve (due to absence) only printed 50 pages max- can you estimate the cost for one page???? Cheerio and good luck with yours  Stefan

Stefan.

So sorry to hear about the demise of your printer.  Those 50 pages of yours turned out to be some very expensive pages.  If you have the chance to get a new printer, I wish you the best of luck with it.  I have not found any damage to my circuit board so I am holding out hope that someone may still have a solution for me.  Sorry again to hear that your printer could not be fixed.

New Developments in the problem...  I got hold of a multi-meter and I also found the battery on the circuit board. I took the battery out and left it out for 2 days to ensure that CMOS memory got drained. After putting the battery back in, and trying to power on the printer, nothing happened. I used the multi-meter to verify that I was getting 32 volts from the power module and that the battery was providing 3 volts.  I put a new battery on the circuit board (CR2032 3V) and when I plugged the printer into the outlet, it powered up and went through its normal routine.  I performed the printhead alignment and was about to run a test page when the display suddenly indicated the printer was powering down.  The printer displayed that message for over 15 minutes and did not power down.  I unplugged the printer and waited for an hour before plugging it back in following the power module reset procedures posted in other documents on this site.  No luck.  The only indication on the printer is the small indicator light next to the memmory card slots.  The printer is out of warranty but is only two years old.  Any suggestions?
