How can I disable power saver mode on HP 4500 Officejet wireless

Sorry, but you will NOT be able to DISABLE the power save mode on this printer.

Are you having a sleep mode issue? The printer goes into power save mode, and doesn't wake up until you turn it off and on?

I have found as part of this forum that there is a procedure whereby you change an inner setting on the printer itself.  Essentially you unlock printer and reset default on "system mode timeout."  If you want more specific info, let me know--as I said it is available from the community postings.  Thank you for your reply.  So far this seems to be working.  The printer will still go into "power saver mode", but it takes longer to do so.

Why thanks. I know that some printer have the actual power save mode ability in it's preferences settings on the printer. If you have that information, and would like to share, you can post it or send me private message to the link.

Sorry for the delay in answering,but here are the instructions: press the * and # on the printer simultaneously. The screen will show full of *s and #s. Press 1, 2, 4 which will unlock the printer. Press left arrow key twice and click ok. Press left arrow key once, you will see "system mode timeout" click ok. This option will be set to 1800 by default. Key in 65535 and click ok. Supposedly this number interacting with the software will keep the printer from going into power saver mode for a long time. So far it has worked for me. Good luck

Thank you. I appreciate the assistance.

Just to let you know, if you are under warranty, you can contact HP Support (1800-474-6836). They will replace it with a 4500 without that sleep mode issue.

Unfortunately, I am not still under warranty so I was most interested in this forum's assistance. Let me know if this works for you.

I too, have been having a problem with power saver mode on my HP officejet 4500 wireless.  Finally, I sent email to HP.  With the last update from HP, my problem went away (I hope permanently.) The night that I sent the email, I could not get the printer to print anything.  Unplugging and replugging back in  (which had been my backup almost from the start) did not work at all.  Today, although I still saw power saver mode on the display, when I clicked on the "print" on my screen, the printer actually warmed up and printed what I wanted.  (When I saw the power saver mode on my display, I unplugged it and replugged it, and it went right back into power saver.  But today, even though power saver was showing, the printer printed.  So....maybe there is a God looking out for all us people with problems...you just have to keep looking.:smileyhappy:

Thanks for the info--I did recently have an update from HP so I think I will reset the default settings and hope for the best! The "solution" I have been operating with works most of the time, but still not failsafe.

Rudy:  For those folks with this problem that are not still under warranty and need a resolution:

To iterate the relevant portions of my prior post and to ensure that my reply does not contravene this forum’s Rules of Participation, I will simply relate (with amendments so as not to "duplicate post") the actual action which I took to obtain the result which posters here apparently also desire, as follows:

After receiving numerous email replies from HP non-supervisory technicians that either had statements that HP was "working on this problem" or posters with "fixes" that do not permanently resolve this problem, I sought and obtained non-legal advice from a South Carolina Consumer Affairs staff member who suggested that, in writing, I notify the office of H-P’s CEO of such contact, that I complied with said suggestion and included all of the mentioned emails, and subsequently received telephonic contact from a supervisory technician of HP headquarters, that I notified him that I did not wish to receive a refurbished similar defective printer replacement, and which contact resulted in my receipt of an upgraded newer model different printer that I am still using with no problems.

=================================
I am not employed by H-P & I do not look for kudos, just solutions.
