My wifi router is out of reach (about 20' up a factory wall) and I'm pretty sure it doesn't have WPS. Even if there was a WPS, it would be quite a bit of trouble to press the button. The control panel on the printer doesn't permit entry of the wireless key or the SSID, so configuring the wifi settings through the printer control panel isn't workable either. What alternatives do I have for setting up the wifi?

Install the printer via USB cable and get it working. Then follow the manual to make it wireless on page 200.

Download the user guide here and read about your options.

I had already downloaded and taken a loot at the manual prior to posting my question. The manual seems to indicate that you can configure the wifi settings by connecting the printer through USB and then adjusting the settings through the printer driver. However, the manual was a bit vague and I wanted to put the question to someone that actually knew before heading off on a possible goose chase.
So does anyknow know what the actual alternatives are for setting up the wifi if WPS is not available?

Yes, WPS is not to be used anyway and should always be disabled in the router for security reasons. You can use a USB cable and transfer the settings to become wireless, or your the Setup Wizard from the front panel (if it has one).

Well that's the thing is strange, AFAIK that is impossible without WPS. When I checked the control panel on the printer it appeared that WPS is the only way to configure wifi through control panel and as far I can tell the manual agrees with this. I thought this was pretty unusual, every printer that I've ever seen that has both a built in display and wifi will give you the ability to configure the wifi through the display.
