Cherryberry, one more thing, I found the printer didn't work right away after my "treatment". The printer wanted me to fuss over it some more. When I gave up and said I'd buy another printhead, it started to work. So, don't give up after your "treatment".  Luck!

Clearly this is a design flaw in this product.  HP wants too much for an exchanged cartridge compared to how much a brand new printer costs 9I think that is their goal!).

I ran, not walked, away from HP months ago and got a brother multi funtion unit.

Better functions, quieter, waaay cheaper ink and so far very reliable.

Its pointless to spend hours of your time trying to resurrect something that likely wont come back, I have learned.  If one soaking doesnt work, it isnt going to.  And what is your time and worry worth?

Cut bait, buy a new one, whatever brand.  Unfortunately, companies these days view printers as disposable.

But when you buy the new one you need to consider ink cost. HP is at the top of cost.  Good luck all...I am going to ATTEMPT to unsubscribe from this forum.....I do not need reminders of how HP let me down.

The only reminders I have left are the brand new ink cartidges I have for the HP....XL black, yellow and magenta. They will make their way to ebay at some point.

Agreed that this product may be flawed.  But my income won't allow buying a new printer. So, I must hang on to the one I have with all the teeth that I have left! lol But I give you my oath,  the darn thing worked after I soaked the thing to death! It didn't want to work after the treatment, but I kept trying to print for a good while. It all of a sudden started to work! It's been going now for 3 months! My premise (LISTEN HP TECHS) is ig you've had the printer for 2 or 3 years and you don't print every day, the printhead gets good and clogged...I mean gooky ink! So it can't be cleaned the way that HP says. However, I will keep in mind about your suggestion about Brother printer.

You were correct about the "sponge" resting area. There was a ton o gunk that I cleaned out. Ran the clean heads and print quality and still no black printing.

How do I get the print head out to clean it? I cleaned the best I could with swabs and paper towels.

Thanks

How do I get the printhead out?

UPDATE:  I decided to junk the 6500 and buy a new printer.  After researching functionality/price I reluctantly bought an HP Officejet Pro 6830 all-in-one for $119.99 on sale from Best Buy.  It comes with a full set of ink cartridges ( Office Depot $70) so net printer costs just $49 bucks.  Much cheaper than a new print head for the 6500.  Plus no more aggrivation and frustration.

In summary, the hot water routine works the first time.  The second time I needed to add rubbing alcohol to clean the head.  The third time it half-way worked but using rubbing alcohol wouldn't do the cleaning - the rubbing alcohol probably damaged the print head.

Thanks for doing the research for me Lyle. That is probably the route I will have to go.

Thanks for the alcohol warning.

What printer model? For the Officejet 6500 see the post here.

Mine is the 6510 which, of course, cannot be removed 😞
