Can anyone help me troubleshoot the error message for an HP Officejet 6700 Premium Printer:

Missing or failed printhead. The printhead appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed.

This error message popped up in the middle of printing. I looked online and the only troubleshooting support they provided was to turn the printer off, unplug for 15 seconds, and turn back on. I did that 3 times now, and it has not solved the problem. Has anyone else had this error message and been able to resolve it, or will I just need to buy a new printer? I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

I am having the exact same issue. I have followed the troubleshooting recommendations and have not had any luck. Anyone??

I am also having the exact same error and unfortunateloy my warranty ended less than a month ago. I have done the restart and am trying to find instructions to clean the printhead and have not had any luck yet as it does not seem to come out. Has anyone figured this out? This is a real deal breaker and I will never buy HP printers again if this can't be resolved I have tons of new ink and no way to use it.

I am sorry to hear that you are all experiencing the same issue with your Officejet 6700 saying "Missing or Failed Printhead".

 

I would like to help, I saw troubleshooting already done in the previous posts, however there is a troubleshooting guide for this error message.

 

Please follow this first: A 'Missing or Failed Printhead' Error Message Displays on the Printer or on the Computer

 

 

 

If that does not resolve the problem and your printer is still under warranty, I suggest calling HP's Technical Support as you may qualify for a replacement unit.

 

 

If you do not have warranty any longer and you would like to try another step, I would ask for your permission to send a private message to you here from the forum. Please respond if you accept and I will message you privately.

Thanks for responding. I already tried that same link you sent me and as I mentioned I am less than 30 days past my warranty expiration. A private message would be great if there is something else I could try. It is very frustrating not to be able to use the printer just 13 months after I purchased it. Thanks.

Hello,

 

I am sorry to hear the troubleshooting did not help fix the issue. Please see this post from Bob. He gives instructions on how to do a "printhead soak". As you mentioned you are no longer under warranty, I recommend trying this step to see if this clears the "missing or failed printhead" error.

Hi,

 

my printer is not in warranty anymore. it is still very new and the printhead seems to not be detected. I have shut it off and turned it on. Problem seems to persist. What are my next steps. Please advise.
