I just bought a brand new HP Officejet 6962 to replace my old hp printer (which just died after 8 years). My husband and I set it up at the same time on both our laptops-- his is a year-old Macbook, mine is BRAND NEW, one month old HP Pavilion. It worked perfectly at startup on both laptops, including printing on mine wirelessly. But one day later, no such luck. His laptop prints wirelessly no problem. Mine won't print wirelessly at all, and will only randomly print when I plug it in. Both ways, it tells me "the printer is in an error state," although the printer is turned on and there is no error message anywhere to be seen. Here's how I can get it to print: Turn the printer on. Bring up the screen to be printed on my laptop. Choose print, then quickly plug the printer in via USB cable. It will print one, maybe two documents this way, then it will quit printing and tell me again "printer is in an error state." If I hard restart the printer, or if I just turn it off normally and follow the described steps above, it will print one or two more documents. If I try and print wirelessly, it does absolutely nothing, or it tells me the printer is an error state. This is maddening. I just bought the **bleep** thing. I have searched the forums and followed various suggestions, tried hard restarting, and I JUST INSTALLED THE DRIVERS. What is wrong with this thing? Why is working perfectly with my husband's Mac, but cannot comprehend it's own species, MY HP LAPTOP???

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,
The Riddle_Decipher is at your service.
As I Understand you have an HP Officejet 6962 Printer in an Error State CONSTANTLY,
No worries as I'd love to help your printer identify it's "species", however, I need a few more details to provide an accurate solution:
Does the printer work using a wired connection? to ensure the computer works with the printer.
Did you run the HP Print and scan doctor to identify the issue?
While you reply with a response, here're a few things you can try:
Step 1: Restart the computer, printer, and router
Restart the computer, printer, and router to resolve any error states present during the printer setup.
NOTE:
The following steps temporarily disconnect network and Internet connections, and require restarting your computer. Complete any tasks or downloads in progress before continuing.
-
Disconnect the power cord from the router.
-
Turn off the printer.
-
Close all running programs on your computer, including the HP software installation window, then shut down the computer.
-
Reconnect the power cord to the router, then wait for the Internet activity light to display a normal connected status.
-
Turn on the printer.
-
Turn on the computer.
-
Try installing the HP driver and software again.
Step 2: Check the network and printer connection status
Make sure your network is working correctly and that the printer is ready for the network setup.
Step 3: Manually connect the printer to your network (wireless connections only)
Try connecting the printer to your network manually so that the HP installer can find the printer. Use the Wireless Setup Wizard if you have a touch or text-based control panel, or try Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS). After connecting, try installing the HP driver and software again.
Step 4: Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor
HP provides a free tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor to quickly and automatically perform several troubleshooting tasks known to resolve this issue. When this link is clicked, HP Print and Scan Doctor is downloaded using your Internet browser's download capabilities.
