HP Officejet Pro 6978
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I purchased this printer last night.  The printer is connected to our wireless network with a 192.168 type IP address .  The software installed fine on the computer. When using the "connect a new device" from the HP Officejet Pro 6970 s neoftware, the printer is listed and I am able to choose it.  I have tried both the Wireless and the Wired choices in connecting the device.  However, the next step just keeps saying it is installing network device...BUT it ends up as a X that it could not install the device.  

 

I have installed the Troubleshooting HP printer software and have completed all 4 Solutions, but with NO success.  

 

I loved my last HP printer - had it for about 10 years, but I am ready to return this one!

Hi,

Please Uninstall and Reinstall the FULL feature software following these steps:

1. Uninstall the software in your computer
2. Download and save the FULL feature software (do not install it online)

 

The following resource will help you :

Key in your printer model, Operating System and download & install the FULL feature software.


3. Install the FULL feature “Saved” software

Once you have downloaded and installed the FULL feature software, you will be able to print and scan.

I tried the link you had listed, but it would not come up on the screen.  Please help, I have tried to connect this printer since last Fiday and have tried all the things I know to try.  I have uninstalled it so what do I need to do next?
