We are experieincing this same problem as described below by someone previously;  the link to the answer appears to be deleted now.   Would really appreciate some insight?

Tks,

I am having trouble printing from my HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer. When I am able to print the process is extremely slow and the printer makes a great deal of noise prior and during printing. In addition, the margins are completely off compared to those on the actual document. The left margin is so large that it is cutting off a portion of the document on the right side. I've tried to unplug and restart the device and it is set back to the factory default but the issues remain. I printed out a test page and it looks fine but the speed, noises and margins continue to be a problem. How can I solve these issues?

Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you're well @PFAF_GW,

I read your post about the troubles you are having with your Officejet 8600 making noises and printing off alignment, and I wanted to stop in to make my suggestions to help.

I would suggest trying these steps:

1. ALL steps in this guide: An 'Out of Paper' or 'Pick Motor Stalled' Displays

2. Ensure the printer is plugged in directly to a wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors.

3. You can also try removing the ink cartridges and re-seating them.

If the same issues occur, contact HP directly to see what your replacement printer options are. If the issue changes and you see new symptoms, let me know all of the details and I will do my best to help!:)

Turns out the printer had serious problem;  HP recommended it be replaced after going thru diagnostics.   Was very impressed with replacement process.   Back up and printing in less then a week with upgraded printer for less then $200.
