Hello I am having a semiliar challenge, my printer is pinting. It also scans on the glass. When I put it through the feeder it sends it through but comes out blank. My OS is google chrome.

I have been following along with the forum and I am using the same operating system as the rest of the commenters on here---

My questions is---Once it goes to scan and feed the paper through the feeder--it then stops the scanning process and the error message on the screen says "Scanner lid or document feeder open." Neither of them are open--in this case--I think both are closed.  What do you reccommend me do now?

Thank You

Thanks for your clear and on-target response.  I've spent almost two hours chasing the side-effects of using the HP Printer Assistant to perform a manual hi-res scan.  I never knew that its selections would become permanent.
Your post allowed me to perform yet another manual scan using Printer Assistant to clear up this problem.
It's a mystery to me why this option had to be so carefully hidden away, but you did good and KUDO's to you!

Hey @chakko,

Thanks for getting back to me with your Windows 7 Operating System. I normally get an email notification informing me that you had responded to a thread that we're working on. In this case, I never received any notification. Because of this I am just seeing your response now. With that being said, should you still be experiencing a document feeder issue when scanning I would like to guide you to a solution. Please follow the steps below to check your HP Scan settings.

1. On the desktop of your computer click on the HP Officejet 8610 Printer Assistant icon. It should look similar this:

2. When the HP Printer Assistant opens please select Scan a Document or Photo. HP Scan will now open.

3. Under HP Scan please choose the appropriate scan option on the left. On the right, locate the Source section. If this is set to Flatbed, please change this to Document Feeder. You may have the option for Use Document Feeder if Loaded. Please ensure that your paper is loaded in the automatic document feeder before you hit Scan on the bottom left. Your printer display should indicate 'Document Loaded' or 'Original Loaded'.

You printer should now feed the pages to scan from the automatic document feeder.

Please let me know if the steps I've provided resolve your document feeder scan issue. Best of luck! 🙂

I have the same problem in that when I am scanning, my documents will not load through the feeder, it will only scan from the glass. My feeder works when copying and printing from my laptop. I am on the windows 7 operating system. I have read the suggestion to make sure that the setting is loaded to FEED FROM FEEDER IF LOADED. My setting is set as this and it still will not load through the feeder. Please urgently assist as I need this function.

Many thanks

Hello - my scanner will not scan from tray, only the glass. It will copy successfully from tray. I have read instructions on how to fix this issue from other posts, but for another operating system. I have Windows 10. Thanks for any help you can provide!
