Hi! @Lucian_B, Welcome to HP forums

I understand you have forgotten the admin password for your printer and you need to know how to reset the printer.

Don't worry I will try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Is your printer asking the wireless network password or wifi direct password?

Please try the steps recommended below.

1. Reset the printer: Setup > Network > Reset Network Defaults.
2. Disable IPv6:
  - Connect directly from your PC to the printer with Ethernet.
  - Find the printer's IP address on its front panel or self-test.  Enter the IP in a browser
  - Navigate to Network tab > Advanced and disable IPv6.
  - Click Apply.

If the issue still persists try the steps recommended below.

1. Double-click on the printer icon on the desktop to open the HP Printer Assistant.
2. Click on the "Printer Home Page (EWS)" option.
3. This will open a web page with the printer. Click on the "Settings" tab on top.
4. On the right, under "Security" click on "Password settings". (Verify the page if you are asked to.)
5. Type the password you want in both password fields (or leave it blank if you do not want a password) and hit "Apply".

Let me know if this works!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂

Thank You for the answer,

In the meantime I reset the printer to the factory settings: I hold down the power button  then I pressed the self-test button 23 times.

@Lucian_B, I'm glad you came back, I was waiting for your response.

Appreciate your efforts for trying out the steps.

Do you get the admin password on your PC or printer?

If you want to disable the EWS password try the steps recommended below.

All you have to do is RESTORE NETWORK DEFAULT settings on the front control panel - follow this path on the front panel of your 8500 Wireless: Setup Menu> Network> Restore Network defaults, this will reset them to default

1) password access requirement is turned OFF
2) username default is ADMIN
3) password is BLANK

I'll watch your reply!

Have a wonderful day ahead! 🙂
