HP Officejet Pro x476dw MFP
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Our HP OfficeJet Pro X476dw MFP has never had a problem connecting to our router until yesterday.   It can find the router and other networks in the area, but when I enter the password I receive the response “unable to connect to the network”.

I ran the Wireless Network Test and these were the results:

Wireless On – Pass

Wireless Working – Pass

Connected – Not Run

Network Name (SSID) found – Pass

Wireless Networks Detected – 18

Printer Settings Consistent with Wireless Router Settings – Pass

No Filtering – FAIL

Channel – Not Run

Security – Pass

The solution it provides is "1 If MAC Address filtering is enabled and you would like to keep it enabled, you must add the Mac address of your printer to the list of permitted devices for your router before continuing."

I checked and, we do not have MAC Address filtering enabled.

We have tried doing a Semi-Full Reset, unplugging and plugging back in the router, removing the HP software from our computers and re-installing and tried the troubleshoot HP Installation Failure – Network which directed us to put a post on the HP website.  Nothing has worked.

The printer was used for printing, faxing and scanning yesterday and around 2:00pm it just randomly stopped working.

The printer is not connected to a computer or the router with a cord, it is 100% wireless.

We fixed the problem.  We accessed the secret support menu again where you can access the option to do a semi-full reset or choose other options, we chose to print a connectivity status report.  This report had a more detailed inforation.  Something that stood out to us was "There were 2 access points with your configured SSID found in this area.  The printing device will connect to the one with the strongest signal."  After reading that sentence we noticed there was a duplicate SSID when we checked our available networks from our computer.

The Fix: We changed our SSID name and tried connecting our printer to the new SSID name and it worked!
