Hi Ralph221,

I don't mind at all helping you on the forum.

I don't have access to email or phone support.

For phone support you would have to call HP Tech Support.  Contact HP Worldwide.

So the printer is working again by a USB connection. That is good. I would delete the old entries of the printer.

Make sure the print queue is empty and right click the printer and remove the device.

Verify that one of the network lights (10 or 100) is illuminated on the network port located on the
back of the device. If not, then try another port on the router or another Ethernet CAT-5 cable.

Power cycle the router.

When you run the add printer wizard, it should have detected the printer over the network if the printer had a valid IP address provided by the router automatically.

Once you get a valid IP address from the router, all you have to do it run the add printer wizard to connect to the network.

I not sure why the configuration report isn't printing for you.

Did you not have the option in the printer preferences to do this or it just didn't print it?

Thank you for your time. :generic:

IF I understand you correctly, the router assignes the IP address to the printer. the printer has no acutal IP address, correct?

IF that is correct, Can I manually add a IP address for the router to use and internally assign to the printer?

IF so how can I do that? The only think I have not tried to do is chane the  cat cable. But hte lights on the back o fthe printer are lit as soon as I plug it in. And it blinks like hell when I try to add the printer on the network.

When I look up my routers properties it lists the the following data;

Description: Realtek RTL 8187B Wireless 80211b/g 54Mbps USB2.0 Network adapter

physical address is    00-16-44-8E-DD-11

DHCP enabled    yes

IPv4 IP aadress is 192.168.1.2

the  IPv4 default gateway server is 192.168.1.1  as are the DHCP and DNS servers

NetBIOS over Tcpip En..  yes

Link-local IPv6 address fe80::ddb:1147:c81:bb59%13

Is there anything you see here that is the possilbe culprit?

Hi Ralph221,

To add a manual IP address for the printer, you first have to get the IP address assigned by the router to setup the manual IP by accessing the printer's Embedded Web Service by the IP address .

Let us try this approach.

Connect the printer to the computer with the Ethernet cable.

Wait about 1 minute to see if you get a valid IP address.

Print the configuration page to see if you get a valid IP address.

If you don't then it is a hardware issue possibly with the Ethernet port with the printer.

If you do get a valid IP address then it is a issue with the network.

I would at this point, contact the router company to see if the ports are blocked on the router.

Thank You.

Thanks Gemini02

Where will the IP address that you speak of possibly showing up in a minute be found?  Please be specific on where to go to find it ( include steps if you can) as I have tried to find all sorts of stuff in some pretty strange places.

Thanks again for your awesome patience.

Hi Ralph221,

Your very welcome.

You have already tried these methods and unfortunately the printer didn't print them.

But I will provide them for you again to see if you can get it to work.

To print a configuration page, press the Go button when the Ready light is on.

Laserjet p1505 screen shot.png

You can also access the IP address by going to start, devices and printers, right click the printer icon, left click printer properties, click on the ports tab, the printer should be listed for TCP/IP, then click configure port to get the IP address.

If the printer isn't getting the IP address, it could be the Ethernet cable, the port on the router or the printer.

Let me know if you can get it to print the configuration report and what the IP address is.

Thank You.
