The power went out while my HP PSC 2410 Photosmart All-in-One printer was plugged into a surge protector. The printer was on at the time. When the power was restored, the printer was making a noise (cri, cri, cri etc.) like it's trying to feed paper and the power "ON" green light keeps blinking, and I cannot use the printer.
I am using WIndows 8.1 I have tried two hard resets and the reset using the "Cancel" button. It will try to set up but then starts making the noise again and the light keeps blinking. The noise eventually stops, but the light doesn't stop blinking. Is there anything else I can do?
Thanks for any help.

Hi pb3,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand the lights on the printer are flashing after a power outage.
I will be happy to help you.
Try doing this power reset if it is different from what you have already tried.
With the printer still turned on, disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer, if the printer has external power module with a detachable power cord disconnect it for 15 seconds and then reconnect it.
Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to drain the power.
Then disconnect the power cable from the wall outlet.
Wait 10 seconds and reconnect the power cable back to the wall outlet first, then the back of the printer and power it on again.
Make sure the printer is connected directly to wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector)
Check to make sure there isn't any paper jams inside the printer causing the noise.
Try and print a hardware self test on the printer to find out if it is a hardware or software issue.
Temporarily remove any cables from the printer except the power cord.
Press Setup on the product control panel.
The Setup menu displays.
Press 1 to select Print Report . The Print Report menu displays.
Press 4 to select Self-test report . The self-test report prints.
If it prints the self test then reconnect the cables and try printing from the computer.
Please let me know the results.
After the reset and connecting the printer directly to the wall, was the printer in a ready state?
Did the hardware self test print?
Were you able to print from the computer.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.
Have a nice day!

I did the power reset twice, but the computer will not set up. It sounds like it is trying to set up, but then just starts clicking and the power light keeps blinking. The clicking noise stops after a minute but the light never stops blinking. The computer never finishes setting up. It sounds like it is trying to feed the paper, but never does. Neither the setup nor any of the other buttons will work. There is no paper jam. I am wondering if that power outage may have ruined my printer.
Do you have any other ideas that may work? Thanks for your help.

Hi pb3,
Disconnect any cables from the printer except the power cable. We want to rule out any connection or software issues.
Try the power reset again.
Then try and print a hardware self test if the printer goes back to a ready state.
If the printer fails to go back to a ready state and the use of the menus aren't working still, then the printer would need to be serviced unfortunately.
I would recommend to call HP Tech Support for further assistance to see what other options are available for you, you can also inquire about the trade in and trade up program. Contact HP Worldwide.

Welcome to the HP Forums BobTaylor,
I see by your post that you are experiencing the same issue.
I can help you with this issue.
The noise might be caused by a carriage jam.
I have provided a document to go through the steps to see if it will help resolve this issue.
'Clear Carriage Jam and Press OK to Continue' Error Message Displays on Control Panel.
If the issue persists, then I would recommend to call HP Tech Support for further assistance to see what other options are available for you. Contact HP Worldwide.
Have a nice day!
Thank You.

HP psc 2410 after power interuption tries to find a spot to stop at startup , but continues to try an move right to the point where it can no longer, then begins to make a click sound. This has been a problem for the past 5 years and is not reproduceable. Is this a known problem with HP? pLease answer the question as I am the original owner and have had the unit cleaned but with no predicable solution.

Hi @joeyIII,
I see that you are experiencing issues with the printer making noise. I would like to help you.
Check for any obstructions or broken parts in the carriage path and see if the carriage will move freely now. Reinsert the cartridges. Make sure the cartridges are Genuine HP.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
If the issue continues, please Contact HP Support for further assistance. Fill in the model number and the form to receive a case number for quicker assistance.

My printer is doing the same exact thing after a power outage and it was on a surge protector. What did you finally have to do to get your problem resolved?
It appears this is a glitch with these printers - they can't handle a short power outage. However, mine is a PSC 2510 Photosmart.
Thanks!
