HP PageWide 577dw MFP
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

SCAN TO COMPUTER periodically stops working. Restarting printer usually resolves issue, but this happens daily, so this is not a working solution. Scanning works for a day, then this failure occurs on every computer attempting this function.

Printing also fails to work once this occurs too. Trying to scan to computer,  the 577 MFP user screen states the computer is unavailable and just displays a spinning circle. When checking the computer that was the target of the scan, the Scan to Computer process has suddenly stopped and can’t be restarted. Sometimes restarting the printer resolves issue. This is occurring with multiple users’ computers.

The HP scan fix doctor does not resolve issue. Firmware is up to date (AUG 2021). Uninstalled, reinstalled drivers and full application package. Still occurs after about 24 hours.

After scanning fails, on the computer taskbar, the Scan to PC app has a red x. (This app is actually the “ScanToPCActivationApp” which is set to start at Windows logon time). This app looks like it is failing randomly, and re-starting it sometimes works, sometimes it doesn’t. Bottom line, we cannot accept restarting printer and/or computer every day. Determining why this app is stopping would probably lead to a fix. Is there a app log that can be examined?

How do we permanently fix this issue?
