I have a HP Photosmart 5512.  I had an IT guy do some work on it.  He got the Printing portion working.  When I go to scan on the printer directly it keeps giving me errors.

I push the Scan to computer Icon.  It keeps saying make sure the printer sofware is installed on your computer, and that "Scan to Computer" is enabled via the printer software.

I have updated and checked all the settings on my printer.  Done a scan check from my laptop.  It works fine.

I have a PC laptop.  Not mac.  Should I delete all printer software and start over?

I can't get ahold of the IT guy.  I can't quite busy.  I can't directly scan documents anymore like a timesheet.  Its a pain.

Please advise,

Thanks so much.

Kate

Thank you.  I have tried everything.  Now my printer won't print.  I can only scan connected to my printer.  I don't have time.  The IT guy spent hours.  Still not resolved.  I don't want to deal with him.  Unprofessional.  Should I delete the software and start over.  Can this be resolved over the phone?  I am in grad school.  I don't have time.  I need to print and scan.

I have the CD.  I just need help to resolve.  I can't print something that I need.

I have turned off the laptop, printer, unplugged. disconnected.  Nothing is working.  Downloaded stuff over and over.  Frustrated.  IT can't help me.  I need help.  Very frustrating.  My only solution.  Delete it and start over.  Major issues.  Nothing works right.

It would be helpful for discussion over the phone to get cleared up.

Thanks.

Hi @eirenadur,

As @ The_Fossette” is out of office, I am jumping in to assist you.

Spectacular understanding and commendable description of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂  You are a valued HP customer and it is paramount to assist you here. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did this happen after a software or windows update?
  • Have you done a hard reset on the printer?
  • Did you try to make copies directly from the printer?
  • What is the operating system of the computer?

For now, try to make a few copies directly from the printer. If it copies fine, the issue may not be hardware related. Then uninstall the printer software completely by following these steps assuming that you PC has windows 8.1 or Windows 10.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.

Then please reinstall the full feature software from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Photosmart-5510-e-All-in-One-Printer-series---B1/... and update the printer firmware from the same link.

Hope this helps.   I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂  Please reach out for any issues and I'll always be there to assist you always. 🙂
