The black ink on my HP Photosmart 7520 does not print. I replaced the cartridge with a new one, and that one does not print. All the other colors print, but not the black. I have tried cleaning the cartridges, and doing the alignment. the alignment comes up as failed, mainly because any alignment lines do not come out. What are my options other than getting a new printer?

Hi @Bassoonerist,
Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums! This is a great location to get resolutions and interact with experts from the community. I understand that you are getting issues while printing in black. Do not worry, I am here to help! Going through your post, it seems that the issue started after replacing the black cartridge. Do not worry, I am here to help!
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
How is the printer connected? USB/Wireless
Have you tried to clean the cartridge contacts as well as the rollers?
Do you have an alternate cartridge? Or, you can try using the old cartridge and try printing again.
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.
Remove the cartridges from the printer.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle and then try inserting the cartridges.
Next thing, I would suggest here is to follow all the steps suggested in the support document for - HP Photosmart 7520 Printers - Color or Black Ink Not Printing

Thanks for the help, but I've tried most of that before you replied, and to no avail. The point is moot because I gave up and got a new printer and turned the old one with a credit towards the purchase.
While I like HP printers, they are annoying because the important parts die, leaving the not so important stuff going. We go through the numbers to fix it, and end up getting another printer.....and we'll probably go into the same stuff in 3 years. At least Epson printers tell you when they are going to die.

I hope I'm responding to an existing thread, but I've done all of the troubleshooting steps as recommended by the HP Website, and the black cartridge does not print. Do I need to replace the entire printer, or can this issue be resolved? Thank you.
