Hi
Can somebody please tell me how I can change the settings on my photosmart 7520 so that it stops using expensive photo black ink and use the XL black ink instead? I have read so many threads on this website and nobody really answers it! I can't afford to keep replacing the photo black when I am printing business documents. I have changed every setting previously mentioned and nothing works, it keeps using the photo black (I know this because it's the only ink that is empty!)
Please can someone help, I will be buying a different brand if this doesn't get sorted, at the minute I see it as a complete waste of money and I think it's a bit of a con, it isn't an all in one printer, it's a photo printer and will cost you a fortune if you use it for anything but photo's!
Would appreciate a response.
Thanks

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.
I understand that your HP Photosmart 7520 e-All-in-One Printer is using photo black ink instead of normal black ink to print black.
This issue could occur if the grayscale printing option is not selected if you are not printing in color.
Let's go through a few steps to resolve this issue.
And here's the step by step guide for you in the links below depending on the operating system installed on the computer:
1. Printing with Black Ink Only (Windows)
2. Printing with Black Ink Only (Mac)
Also, let us know the operating system installed on the computer. You may check the link: Windows Operating System or Mac Operating System
Let me know how that works.
You have a good day ahead.

Thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.
I understand that the issue still persists after following the steps provided in the previous interaction.
This issue could occur if you are using photo paper to print the documents. Also, you need to check the print settings and change it to plain paper.
You may check the link depending upon the operating system installed on the computer: Printing Documents (Mac) or Printing Documents (Windows)
Let me know if this works.
You have a good day ahead.
