Hello,

I just started using an HP Photosmart B110 and tryed connecting it to my Mac.

My equipment:

Macbook 2011, with OsX 10.7.5 installed

connected to internet via tethering over a Nexus4 or personal hotspot via iPhone4. Tethering over our network is allowed.

Epson B110, connected to internet the same way as above.

Macbook connects to the internet with no problems.

When I connect the printer to the hotspot, the Wireless Network Test Report works ok, every diagnostics is passed / excellent. Computer is connected to the same SSID as the printer. Computer Ip address is 192.168.43.xxx, printer ip address is 192.168.1.xxx.

Installing the printer works flawlessly even via System Preferences - Scan & Printer - add: the printer get noticed in the nearby printers.

BUT

- printer is not reachable neither from the pc nor from the smartphone at its IP address (no ping, no hp page when accessed from internet browser)

- printer services doesn't work from the pc (Hp Utility can't access the printer, ink widget doesn't work)

- and, when I start a print, I can't print (error "The printer is not responding")

- if I disinstall the printer and try to reinstall via IP address with HP Jetdirect protocol, I can't add the printer.

Moreover:

Printer doesn't seem to be online: it can't reach HPePrintCenter via the Apps section, but it can depend from the fact that hpeprintcenter shows as status:

The HP ePrintCenter is offline for maintenance, but I can't be sure.

I imagine that the issue is happening somewhere between computer-router-printer, as the printer prints the test flawlessly and  its connection is excellent (even if I would be sure if the printer alone could connect to HPePrintCenter, but I think I'll need to try in another moment...).

Can somebody help? I don't know what to do more and I am sadly going to buy an USB cable if I can't setup the mobile print (which I would love to use from my mobile devices too, but I would need to stick to the mail print system with the USB workaround...)

Thank you in advance

HI Kyrnnie:

I understand how frustrating it is when things don't go the way we think they should.

Be assured I am here to help.

With the B110 printer you will require an update for the Airprint to work.

I as sending you a link to the manual for your printer.click here.

Click on the connectivity section and go to the adhoc connection.

If you can connect with the adhoc you should be able to add the printer. This is a wireless connection between the mac and the printer only.

If you are still having an issue, you may want to take printer to a friend's house or family's, and connect it to their network to be able to install the firmware update.

When you take it home it should show up as Airprint printer.

This will allow another direct connection between the printer and mac.

Airprint printers click here

With the Airprint option, you will need to install hp connect app to be able to scan from your devices( Iphone 4 or Nexus)

When you printed the network page you stated the IP address of computer is 192.168.43.xxx but the printer ip address is 192.168.1.xxxx, only the xxx should not be the same.

Have you tried assigning a static ip  address?

I am sending a link to "Printer does not maintain wireless" click here. Step 6 explains how to set a static IP address.

I hope this helps.

Hi Krynee:

I regret to tell you that HP does not support Hot Spots.  If they work great.

If you are unable to access the embedded  web server from the IP address and are unable to ping the printer it is a network issue.

Reset the printing system and then add the printer back in and retry print job.

To reset printing system click here

Add the  printer back  and try printing.

If you are still getting the same error, restore the network defaults

Touch the right arrow on display screen

Touch the wrench (setup)

Arrow through until you see wireless and select it

Restore network defaults.

Restart all devices.

Rerun the wireless setup.

Print network test and retry.

Here is a link to"The Printer is Not Found During Wireless Network Installation" click here

If you are still unable to access the printer, try adding it as a Airprint printer and then try printing.

Once printer has a wireless connection it should show up in your printer list and you should be able to add  with an Airprint driver.

If you can print with  the Airprint driver then it is the Hot Spot that is the issue and you should refer to the manufacturer of the Hot Spot. for further assistance

Be  advised you cannot use the Airpint driver and access the  internet wirelessly at the same time

Hello Sparkles1,

Thank you very much for your troubleshooting.

However, all those solutions didn't worked, and I will explain carefully:

---

If you are unable to access the embedded  web server from the IP address and are unable to ping the printer it is a network issue.

Reset the printing system and then add the printer back in and retry print job.

To reset printing system click here

Add the  printer back  and try printing.

--

didn't work: I could add the printer back again (Print & Scan add find it in the "nearby" printers, however, I can't access the printer nor print.

---

If you are still getting the same error, restore the network defaults

Touch the right arrow on display screen

Touch the wrench (setup)

Arrow through until you see wireless and select it

Restore network defaults.

Restart all devices.

 ---

I wasn't able to restore network defaults: there is no such option under wireless menu page.

however, I tried restoring factory defaults for the printer. And went back to wireless setup.

---

Rerun the wireless setup.

Print network test and retry.

Here is a link to"The Printer is Not Found During Wireless Network Installation" click here

---

I rerun the wireless setup, printed the network test that was passed again with no problems found.

Anyway, I am not able to ping nor print

If you are still unable to access the printer, try adding it as a Airprint printer and then try printing.

---

If I disconnect the printer from the hotspot, I can't add the printer through the Setup on the Mac using the "Add other printer or scanner" function.*

(*maybe it sound stupid, but I don't know how the Airprint connection work and I was thinking about some direct wireless connection between the mac and the printer...)

Otherwise, if I connect the printer to the hotspot and then add via the "add other printer or scanner" function (not selecting the printer under the "nearby printer" section), manually selecting "Print using: Airprint printer" over the Photosmart B110 Series, it still don't work: printer doesn't print nor I can't access printer's IP from the browser.

However, I am still able to connect to internet from the Mac while printer is being added and I don't find any problems with internet wireless access from the pc: am I doing something wrong?

Brief summary:

In any case:

- printer's wireless test results with a no problems found

- my Mac is able to see and add the B110 to the printers. Printer looks "green" and "idle". My Mac is still connected correctly to the internet

But:

I can't access neither the IP of my printer, nor its supply levels, nor print from my Mac (I didn't even tried from other devices)

I can't access the internet from my printer: neither can use the "apps" nor download updates

I can't understand clearly why printer's connectivity may seem not to work, but it can be recognised over the hotspot.

If you have any other idea, I will be happy to try it.

In any case, thank you for your much appreciated effort.

Hello,

IP of the printer and IP of the pc differs as stated before. I can't access the printer as I can't ping or see it on Web Page.
I will be looking for a solution for updating it via some friends wifi, as at the moment with the hotspot I can't update printer driver.

At the present moment I'm stuck as I can't update the printer firmware over wifi, can't change its IP, can't print and can't access it.

Thank you for your previous ideas

Hi Lorenzo.

Thank you for your response.

Restore your product's network default settings

Follow these steps to restore your product's network default settings.
  1. Touch the Wireless button ( ) on the front of the product.
  2. Touch the Right Arrow button to select Wireless Settings , and then touch OK .
  3. Touch the Right Arrow button to select Restore Network Defaults , and then touch OK .
  4. Select Yes to confirm your selection, and then touch OK .

Retry setting up the wireless again. If the IP address come up the same than it is the hotspot.

While you are waiting to get the printer's firmware updated, you can connect it with a usb cord to your mac and add it that way.

Once the update is done, you should be able to use the  direct wireless connection between mac and printer. (Airprint) (built in drivers in your OS).

I am sending you a link to "How to Use Apple's AirPrint Over a Wireless Network" click here

You could call your hotspot provider to see if they could assist in getting a valid IP address for the printer.

I hope this helps

Hello Sparkles.

Big good news!

I found an open wireless and got my printer and my macro ok connected. I updated the firmware and I was able to access it from the pc. Following your ideas, I prevented the printer from using a static IP address and used the automatic IP address.

When I went back home, printer was connecting successfully to the hotspot and obtaining an IP address that I could reach from the macbook connected from the hotspot.

I reinstalled the printer again and...
I was then able to print wirelessly!

I wasn't still able to scan via wireless but I solved scanning to SD. big kudos to your patience help!

Hi Krynn:

I am glad it has worked out.  You will need to download the HP printer control application and install.

You will be able to scan using this application.
