HP Photosmart C4580 All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I have had the C4580 for a couple of years now and its always worked perfectly over wi-fi but I have had to have a new router installed (Virginmedia Superhub 3) which has meant trying to establish a Wi-fi connection with the new router settings.

I have tried everything I can think of and all the solutions I have come across via internet searches but nothing has worked. I am now at a total loss as to where the problem lies.

I have uninstalled everything, downloaded and installed the latest software and drivers for it, I have reset the wireless to Network Defaults, even added the printer's MAC address to the allowed devices in my new router's settings, and I still can only establish a USB connection.

When trying to make a Wi-fi connection it gets right up to 100% and going to print a test page but then everything stops and it says "Printer setup has failed to complete."

Can anyone help, please, as I really dont know what to do next. Thanks.

@Dreamfinder,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you are unable to connect your HP Photosmart C4580 All-in-One Printer to the network after changing the router.

This issue could occur older network details are not erased.

Let's go through a few steps to troubleshoot this issue.

And here's the step by step guide for you to restore the printer to its network defaults:

To restore network defaults:

1. Press the Wireless button on the product.

2. Press the button next to the down arrow on the display until Restore Network Defaults is highlighted, and then press OK.

3. Confirm that you want to restore the network defaults.

Turn the on the wireless radio:

1. Press the Wireless button on the product.

2. Press the button next to the down arrow on the display until Turn Radio On is highlighted, and then press OK.

Connecting the unit to the computer:

1.Activate SecureEzSetup on the access point. Usually, this is accomplished by pressing a button on the access point. Refer to the router or access point documentation for specific instructions.

2. Press the Setup button on the all-in-one.

3. Press the arrow buttons until Network displays and then press OK. The Network menu displays.

4. Press the arrow buttons until Wireless Setup Wizard displays and then press OK.

5. Follow the instructions in the Wireless Setup Wizard.

6. After the all-in-one connects to the network, install the product software on the computer.

Steps to connect the printer to the Network:

1. Insert the product Software CD in the computer CD-ROM drive.

2. Follow the instructions on the screen. When you are prompted, connect the product to the computer using the USB setup cable included in the box. The product will attempt to connect to the network. If the connection fails, follow the prompts to correct the problem, and then try again.

3. When the setup is finished, you will be prompted to disconnect the USB cable and test the wireless network connection. Once the product connects successfully to the network, install the software on each computer that will use the product over the network.

Print the wireless test report:

1. Press the Wireless button on the product.

2. Press the button next to the down arrow on the display until Wireless Network Test is highlighted, and then press OK. The Wireless Network Test prints.

Sorry for not replying sooner but I've been out all day and have only just picked up your post.

I will attempt your suggestions tomorrow, all being well, but I know that my Printer does not have a Wireless Setup Wizard that you refer to in step 4 of connecting the unit to a computer.

Also I have already done the first steps, 1-3 and 1-2, restoring the printer to its network defaults a number of times without it making any difference.

I am not aware of any SecureEzSetup on my router though it does have a "pair wps" button, is that the same thing?

The other issue is that my original software CD does not show "install" when loaded in my pc now that my pc has been updated to Windows 10. It only shows Exit, so I have had to download the latest edition from the HP website which then runs and lets me install the software and drivers.

As I 've said, I have managed to install and connect to my pc via USB but it will not connect wirelessly whether I try a Wi-fi connection first or attempt to change from USB to Wi-fi later.

The product seems to connect to the network and shows as 100% installed and goes to print the test page but stalls at that point and says something about data not being transmitted/received and something about it maybe being a problem with the network.

I will have another go and follow the steps you've given (where I can as no setup wizard or secureezsetup that I'm aware of), but I have fully uninstalled all the software and done all those steps a number of times already without success.

I will report back on whether or not I have succeeded, thank you for your response and help at trying to rectify my problem.

I understand that you will try the steps later and get back to us.

Please follow the steps and let us know the results. I also appreciate your time and patience.

You may also try the steps from the link: USB Printer Setup (Windows)

I have tried doing a wireless install following your steps (which are more or less the same as I'd been doing already) and still it will not connect wirelessly.

As I said there is no SecureEzSetup on my router, only a "Pair WPS" button.

Also my C4580 printer does not have any Wireless Setup Wizard.

The only options under Network are: Disable Wireless; Wireless Settings and Signal Strength.

Under Wireless Settings there are options to Print Network Configuration Page, Run Wireless Network Test and Restore Network Defaults.

The software installs successfully up to the final part where it states: " The printer attempted to join the network but is not receiving any data. etc" (see attached screen print)

I have added the printers MAC address to the list of permitted devices on my router and MAC filtering is actually turned off and yet my printer still does not connect.

So I am still only able to print by allowing a USB connection on my main PC.

This is is highly frustrating as I never had a problem with the wireless connection to the printer with my old router and cannot understand why a network connection cannot be established to the new one.

@Dreamfinder,

Thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that the issue still persists after following the steps provided in the previous interaction.

This issue could occur if the wireless card in the printer is damaged.

Hence, you need to  Print the wireless test report and check:

1. Press the Wireless button on the product.

2. Press the button next to the down arrow on the display until Wireless Network Test is highlighted, and then press OK. The Wireless Network Test prints.

3. Check if the wireless working pass or fail.

You have a good day ahead.
