HP Photosmart C4700 series
Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

I've had a black cartridge sitting in my printer for a while, I didn't need colour before now. It worked when I bought it. I just added a colour cartridge and printed an alignment page and it didn't come out properly. The black ink is showing at like 95% full. I've tried everything suggested on HP customer support pages, nothing fixed it.
The second image is a test page, as you can see, some colours are coming out with lines despite being a new cartridge. I'm a bit stressed, any help would be appreciated. I've tried taking out and putting the cartridges back in, I've seen that suggested a lot. print1.jpgprint2.jpg

Hello, @HelpmePlz24 - Hope you are well 🙂

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! I will be glad to be of your assistance 🙂

I see that you are having print quality issues while printing on your Photosmart C4700 printer. Appreciate all your efforts so far 🙂

Let’s try cleaning the print head. Go to http://hp.care/2jKZHXz and follow the steps mentioned under "Solution six: Print and evaluate a print quality diagnostic report and troubleshoot defects". Make sure to clean the print head.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Good luck 🙂

I haven't been through the steps you've suggested yet because my printer is now refusing to print at all. I've tried printing from Photoshop and Windows Photo Viewer. From the computer, it says 'Printing...' but nothing happens with the printer. I tried the 'HP Print and Scan Doctor' and it printed a test page fine (still problems with lines and missing colours) but it hasn't fixed anything, the printer refuses to print anything else. I've tried restarting the computer, unplugging the printer and plugging it back in. I don't use it wirelessly, I use it connected to my PC (and I've tried reconnecting it to the computer)...

Please help, I need it working before tomorrow.

Hello, @HelpmePlz24

Thanks for the update!

You mentioned that the PSDR is printing the test page, but not able to print anything else. Could you tell me what happens when you try to print? Is it giving an error message or the job simply disappears from the queue as if the job is completed? Let me know!

Alternatively, try reinstalling the drivers to try and fix the issue. Here are the steps:

·         First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.

·         Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Photosmart printer entries and uninstall them.

·         Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.

·         Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.

·         Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.

·         Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

·         Restart your computer.

·         Now http://hp.care/2jrEsyW click to install the software.

·         Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Let me know if that helps!

Cheers 🙂
