I have an HP photosmart plus printer but the black ink will not produce print. I have owned this printer for about 16 months.  I have bought three new cartridges thinking the problem was in the ink.  The color ink prints just fine.  I have changed the black ink cartridge many times and know the procedure.  This is some sort of issue with this printer but I have not idea how to fix the problem. HELP PLEASE!!!

@debkaysharp - You'll need to tell us which model this is and which type of ink cartridges it uses before we can tell you whether the advice given in this topic will work for you.  Bear in mind that the printers that are discussed here are only those that use the HP363 ink cartridges.  If yours uses any other type then the [very good] advice given above (which I can testify worked for me) will possibly not work for you.

The model is B209a and it uses 564 black ink.

For the B209a check this post.  (The information there does not apply to the C7280).

I wish I had read through these BEFORE I purchased it. I have had my Photosmart D7560 for two years and it does this stunt atleast once every 2-3 months. VERY frustrating.

HP, aren't you guys paying attention? I look at the age of these posts and I see:

1. What you have done to fix the issue

2. How long you kept ignoring the issue and just kept on manufacturing it back into the newer models.

I had a hp scanner that I LOVED, and I started having problems that were directly related to the driver downloads hp furnished. I got frustrated...hp was not sympathetic...or pro-active with my predicament.

So I went out and purchased a CANON Scanner. Something tells me to start shopping for a CANON printer....

The D7560 uses HP364 ink cartridges, not the HP363.  Therefore, this topic is not relevant to your printer.  Suggest you open a new issue in the D7560 category.

Had a paper jam on HP 7000 809a.  Pulled the paper out.  Since then, the printer will not print black.

Sorry Curt but, once again, wrong ink delivery system.  Your printer uses the HP920 ink cartridge, not the HP363.  Suggest you re-enter this issue on the section for your printer.  Unlikely that any of these solutions posted here will be of any use to you.

I have the C7280 printer so this article is relevant.

I've had this computer for a few years but it hasn't been used very much - for a couple of years not at all. That is to say, it isn't likely to be worn out. I have problems with the C7280 and with the way HP sells the ink. HUGE problems! I also have issues with it not printer per the preferences, meaning it won't prink from the black ink cartridge even if that is selected. I finally got the default changed to such a way that it will only print in black ink. Great except, when I want to print in color, I can't. I can't even get the default to change so that I can print in color.

And my latest problem is, two days ago I could print (albeit) in black and white and today it will not print at all. It goes through the motions but the page is blank. I also noticed that, when I open the "lid" the printing head doesn't mvoe to the side as it is already there. As I said, two days ago it printed. Nothing has changed. Except now it will not print. It appears as though the printer head isn't moving at all.

I'm so sick of this printer. I'm sick of the printer not working with the preferences. I'm sick of buying Lt Turq and Lt Fusch ink because it is part of the pack (and not a separate photo ink print like other printers) and having it go to waste because NOT A SINGLE DROP OF THOSE COLORS ARE USED IN PRINTING ANYTHING OTHER THAN PHOTOS. And now I'm sick of this problem. I don't have the money to buy another printer (and I certainly felt that a $300 printer shouild have lasted through more rigerous printing than I put it through) and I'm not too high on HP either. I would, however, appreciate it if someone could give me some ideas on what I can do to try to fix this - first the problem with the printing head not moving and secondly, how to get the **** preferences working like they should! Thx...

I have same issue.  have HP 7280 printer .I thought that my black ink gone bad even though it was not showing empty. I have bough another one from Ebay and put it in but still same issue.

I have tried paper clip method couple of times but that is not helping. I haven't tried yet Syringe method since I dont have Syringe.

I have tried many Printer Head cleaning from Setup Menu , that also did not help.

Alignment fails all the time but I do see more black lines when it is printing on paper but not very clear.

Any other idea's ?
