HP Envy 5530
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

HP Envy 5530 printer.  When I attempt to run the HP Printer Assistant, I get a popup message:  An error has occurred in the script on this page - Automation server can't create object  - file:///C:/Program%20Files/HP/HP%20ENVY%205530%20series/Bin/HPSPProgress.hta

I have uninstalled, reinstalled the driver, have disabled script debugging in internet optinos, run the Fix_reg.hta script, all to no avail.  Had a similar problem with my Officejet 8600.  When I ran the Fix_reg.hta which was provided for the problem there, problem was resolved.  Any ideas on what else I might be able to do?

Followed the uninstall and reinstall procedures as indicated.  No change.  Problem remains.  Still getting the script error.

Hi @paleomjc

An associated default program to open this file has been incorrectly set.

Download and run the file below. Let me know what you find out?

Ran that and still got the script error afterward.  In fact, after running that, I also got the same script error when running Printer Assistant for my OJ8600.  Had to run a "Fix_hta" script I had from that problem resolution effort  to get rid of the script error and enable it to run again.

Follow below steps and check if it helps.

  2. In the Run dialog box, type regedit, and then click OK. The Registry Editor window opens.

  3. Click File, and then click Export. The Export Registry File window opens.

  4. From the Save in: dropdown menu, select Desktop.

  5. In the File name: box, type backup.

  6. In the Save as type: dropdown menu, select Registration Files (*.reg).

  7. For Export range, select All, and then click Save.

       NOTE:

You can delete this file once the issue has been resolved.

  8. On your computer, click the Start icon (), click Accessories, and then click Notepad. A Notepad window opens.

  9. Copy the following text, and then paste it in Notepad.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htafile]

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.hta]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.hta] "PerceivedType"="text" @="htafile" "Content Type"="application/hta"

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htafile\DefaultIcon] @="C:\\Windows\\System32\\mshta.exe,1"

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htafile\Shell]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htafile\Shell\Open]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htafile\Shell\Open\Command] @="C:\\Windows\\System32\\mshta.exe \"%1\" %*"

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.hta]

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.hta\OpenWithList]

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.hta\UserChoice] "Progid"="htafile"

  10. Save the text file on the Desktop as Fix_hta.reg, and then close Notepad.

  11. Double-click the Fix_hta.reg file that you just created on the Desktop.

  12. Click OK, and then click OK again.

  13. Open HP Printer Assistant.

Let me know how it goes.

Sorry, been out of town.  Created and executed the fix_hta script.  Did not solve problem.  Same script error on Envy 5530. Printer Assistant fails.

Hi @paleomjc,

Thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that the issue still persists after following the steps provided in the previous interaction.

Let me jump in with a solution for this issue in place of my colleague as he is out of the office today.

This issue could occur if the drivers are corrupted.

Let's go through a few steps to uninstall and reinstall the drivers:

Step 1: Uninstall the Drivers:

Please follow the steps provided to uninstall the printer software in the link: Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows)

Also, please follow the steps provided below to completely remove the printer software from printer properties.

Steps to remove printer driver files from Print Server Properties:

  1. Open the Print Server Properties dialog window by doing one of the following:
    • Click the Start menu and in the search field type 'printui /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click it in the search list.
    • Press WINDOWS-R on the keyboard to bring up the Run window, type in 'printui /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click OK.
    • From the Start menu or the Start screen:
    • Open Devices and Printers.
    • Select any printer and then click "Print server properties" at the top of the window.
    • Click on the Drivers tab.
  2. Select the printer driver you wish to uninstall.
  3. Click the Remove button.
  4. Select "Remove driver and driver package" and click OK.

Step 2: Download and install the Drivers from the link: Full Feature Software and Drivers

Let me know if this works.

You have a good day ahead.

Unfortunately these steps did not resolve problem.  Still getting script error.  By the way, there was no HP Envy icon under Devices and Printers and there was no HP Envy driver to remove under Print Server Properties.
