Hi,
I used Sandy's tips to get my printer to work again. But, each time there's a windows update (Windows 10 not on 11/can't upgrade to 11) it messes up the printer again. Drivers unavailable. I don't think we can force stop Windows updates anymore.
So, I followed all these steps and included extra steps of going into C drive and deleted 3 file (C: Windows: System32: spool: Drivers) and after following all the steps when the printer is installed again it still says "Driver is unavailable.
What other steps are needed to fix it and keep it fixed?
I understand that you are getting printer driver issues, I am glad to assist you.
Uninstall the printer driver from the root level and reinstall the printer driver to fix the issue:-
Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
- Select your HP printer.
- Select Uninstall.
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
- In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
- Click on Drivers tab.
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
- Select OK.
- Remove all instances of the same.
- Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
- Close Devices and Printers.
- Restart the PC again.
Download and install the HP Smart app to fix the issue

Thank you for the reply FerRx.
So, I didn't fully get that link to work. I downloaded, software installed. When I went to activate printer, it said I wasn't connected/online even though printer and laptop are on wifi.
I looked online and Smartapp had an update yesterday. Tried that again but it didn't fully load, either.
But, somehow, I have my printer working not through Smartapp. Problem is, it will be "driver unavailable" again in a couple days and I never fully understand how to fix it b/c no fix ever works easily. I keep playing with it til it works but don't know how or why it worked and so will waste more time again next time.
I do appreciate your help, though!
Best,
Amy
