HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus
Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

Hi everyone,

I'd really appreciate some help!  I'm not satisfied that my reliable trusty printer cannot just be repaired!  HP have said once the printer head goes it cannot be fixed????   So I just purchased a new one the OfficeJet Pro 8700 which is great, arrived today, but I'm still interested in 'saving my old printer' from 'printer heaven' pleeeeeeese!

My 8600 was working daily for past 6yrs with absolutely NIL problems!  All of a sudden one day, (while having a look at a friend's HP printer that, coincedentally also had printer head problems, my printer decides to 'catch the virus'  is this possible???  (wireless virus!!!!???)

Always used genuine ink cartridges, machine kept clean and covered and I just cannot believe that it cannot be fixed!!!

So, for all the guru's on this forum - I humbly await your comments.............    I did get a USA part number which I need to dig up, but wanted some expert advice on whether this printer can or cannot be fixed by replacing the print head and roughly whether it would be worthwhile doing this.

Thanks for reading

Notes:

Was printing as usual but nothing got printed, then it did, then stopped.

I tried all the steps advised to take out the cartridges, switch power off, then on, and also take the print head out and do the same, all the steps followed.

No recent software or driver changes that I am aware of (automatic updates excluded)

Error message mainly was around 'Ink problem and then print head problem'

Wireless internet connection

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that you have officejet pro 8600 series and unfortunately it stopped working. And about your virus query, there is no virus that can affect the printer through wireless.

This is more of a hardware issue. What i want you to check is if you remove the printhead and close the carridge door, are you getting mising printhead or cartridges error message. Or the error message remains same. If the error message remains same, please restart the printer and check for the error message.

If you are getting missing printhead or cartridges error message without printhead then I can say 90% its printhead problem. Replacing printhead should fix the issue. Saying that the printhead for this printer would almost cost you to that of the printer cost. I would recommend you to check with parts store and see if you can order one at affordable price.

I hope I have answered your queries.
