How do I remove a device from the "Select Scan Device" menu.  It seems to have saved a new device name for each IP address assigned to the scanner.  Basically what happened is that I had to replace a router.  I forgot to assign a static IP for this printer at first.  Now the static IP is assigned but the Select Scan Device menu is full of redundant entries.  I reinstalled the software and the list is still there. Is this list stored on the printer itself, or in the registry?   Some of the PC's on this network have 6 listings and it's confusing to the user.  Please see attached image.

Thank you for the help,

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

Here's what we suggest:

Please Uninstall and Reinstall the FULL feature software following these steps:

1. Uninstall the software in your computer

After uninstalling, delete any remaining icons in the "Devices and Printers" list.

2. Download and save the FULL feature software (do not install it online)

The following resource will help you :

http://123.hp.com/us/en/

Key in your printer model, Operating System and download & install the FULL feature software.

3. Install the FULL feature “Saved” software

If you are not sure how to do this, the following resource will walk you through the steps:

How to Uninstall Download & Reinstall a Printer software

Hope that helps!

I had done this before, which is how I got so many versions on the scanner list.  I decided to do it again, exactly as you stated it.  Now I have 3 versions on this machine.  Please see screen shot.

There has to be a registry setting or file that stoes this value.

I was able to find and edit CN295BVG9405KC.ini which allowed me to at least renumber the valid scanner on the list to be the first one.  C:\ProgramData\HP\HP Officejet Pro 8600\NetworkDevices .  Hopefully we can find the placeholder and clear it.

Thank you!

Jon

Hi,

Can you try this Uninstaller from Microsoft and then reinstall the FULL feature software again?

Let us know if that works!

I used Revo uninstaller.  AFter that uninstalled everything and cleared the registry, I followed up by tracking down all orphaned HP folders that had any files in them and deleted them.  This was pretty easy because on this PC the printer is the only HP device I'm using.  I havtwo other HP laptops that this approach wouldn't work on.

As soon as I have a few more moments I will try a clean install of the program and write back.

Thank you,

Jon

I performed a factory reset and deleted the software.  I used Revo uninstaller to remove old HP files.  Then I manually went through all of the directories and deleted anything HP.  I performed another clean install and have run in to the same issue.  Now I just have more devices in the scan list and the valid scanner is on the bottom of the list.  I'm glad I only have a handful of machines using this printer or this would be a real hassle.

I have uninstalled again.  This time I am manually deleting all of the leftover folders and manually clearing out the registry.  I have aslo checked the user profiles for leftovers.

Thanks,

JonO

Hi, the solution is to delete the device from your device manager list.  Best to disable one then test in case you delete the wrong one.  i have attached a screen shot.

its a pain in the butt, don;t know why HP techs can't figure this one out....Capture.JPG
