Scanjet 5590
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've installed all of the latest drivers for my ScanJet 5590 on Windows 10 (64-bit).  When I try to run HP Copy or HP Scanning, I get a message starting with "The HP imaging device was not found."  When I run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, everything goes well (including the scanner actually 'scanning') until I try the Test Scan, and I get get a similar message.  The 5590 shows up in Device Manager as well.  What can I do?  Also, can I get the Solution Center application for Windows 10?  I can't find it anywhere?  Thanks.

Hi,

Follow the steps below to solve the issue :

Step One: Check the connections
  1. Disconnect the power cord from the scanner, wait 5 seconds, and then reconnect the power cord.

  2. Make sure that the power cord is connected directly to the power outlet and remove any extension cords or power strips.

  3. Make sure that the USB cable is properly connected to the USB port with the USB trident symbol facing up.

  4. Remove any docking stations, USB hubs, or port extensions when checking for communication and connect the scanner directly to the computer.

  5. Remove all other USB devices from the computer except for the keyboard and mouse.

  6. Try connecting the scanner to a different USB port on the computer.

  7. Try using another compatible USB cable (if available) to connect the scanner to the USB port on the computer.

  8. Try again to scan.

Step two: Check the system resources

Make sure the minimum system resources are being met.

  1. Make sure that the computer meets the minimum system requirements listed on the scanner box or go to HP Scanjet Scanners - Minimum System Requirements .

  2. Temporarily disable all software or programs that automatically start when the Windows operating system is started.

  3. Try again to scan.

Step three: Uninstall the HP Scanjet software
  1. Open the Control Panel.

  2. Open Programs and Features or Add\Remove Programs.
  3. Right-click the software option for the HP Scanjet scanner in the list of installed programs.

  4. Select Uninstall or Remove.

  5. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the HP Scanjet scanning software removal.

  6. When prompted to restart the computer, select No.

  7. Continue to Step six: Reinstall the HP Scanjet software.

Step four: Reinstall the HP Scanjet software
  1. Make sure that you have the HP Scanjet scanning software installation CD available or download the latest version of the HP Scanning software from www.hp.com/support . For recommended drivers and links to download pages, go to one of the following support documents:
  2. Disconnect the scanner from the power outlet and from the computer.

  3. Restart the computer and wait for the computer to reboot.

  4. Insert the HP Scanning software installation CD in the CD-ROM drive, or navigate to a downloaded version of the HP Scanning software and double-click it to launch the installer.
NOTE: If the installation screen does not open after inserting the HP Scanning software installation CD in the CD-ROM drive, click Start, and then Run, type D:\setup.exe, and then click OK (where D:\ is the CD-ROM drive).
  5. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the installation.

  6. After the scanning software has been installed, click Yes to restart the computer.

Step five: Reconnect the HP Scanjet scanner
  1. When the computer system has fully restarted, connect the scanner to the computer using the USB cable.

  2. Connect the power cord from the scanner to the power outlet.

  3. Wait while the scanner is detected and the scanner drivers are reloaded.

NOTE: You might need to restart the computer after reloading the drivers.
  4. Try again to scan.

The HP Scanjet scanner should now function correctly.

Still not working.

The  TWAIN driver does not install.  I can use the scanner, by  going to setting >. devise>.  printer scanner> .  devise and printer>. and then  clicking on the  hp scanner. I can do min things.  If I try anythign else, ie pressing a button on the scanner or using  hp shortcut, etc  it states it cannot find the scanner.
