My 2011 Imac just had a new hard drive professionally installed.  The computer appears to be working fine, however the printer will only print out a small portion of a photo or document (around 1/2 - 3 inches - depends).   There is a long pause before printing begins and its very, very slow.  Additionally the printer is automatically paused.  I've deleted the printer / reinstalled / restarted computer multiple times and nothing works.  The printer worked fine before the hard drive installation.  The printer is plugged in to the wall - no extensions.   Ideas??

Hello, @susan859c – Hope you are well 🙂

Allow me to welcome to HP Support Forums! It is a great platform to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

I see that you are facing issues while printing to your Photosmart D110 from your MAC Sierra. Try the steps listed below to fix the issue:

  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  • Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  • Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
  • Click the “Add button” (+).
  • Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
  • Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “Airprint” would be selected)

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Good luck 🙂

Didn't work.  I tried it twice.   Printer shows it is connecting to my wireless network - but after printing a fraction of the text/photo it stops.  Often shows that the printer has paused - the paper is ejected with the fraction printed.  If I resume it, sometimes it prints another partial page - and sometimes it does nothing.  I've tried the printer diagnostics - it prints fine. Is it losing it's connection to the mac?

Hi @susan859c

Still not working correctly.  Printer now begins print job - then almost immediately pauses, and ejects paper.  When I try to restart, it does the same thing.   I printed out the diagnostics summary that shows exellent signal and passes all other items.  It does say that the disconnect count total is almost 3000.  Is that normal?

Hello, @susan859c

This looks like a driver issue with the printer. Try the steps below:

·         Uninstall the old printer drivers first. Follow the steps mentioned here: http://hp.care/2cKwLyC

·         Now run the Apple Software Update. Check here for steps: http://hp.care/2cNgw3C

·         Restart your computer and printer.

Now, go to http://apple.co/2noCAoI and download and install the new HP printer drivers and check.

Thanks, I look forward to hearing back from you!

Good luck 🙂

Rats!  I had high hopes, as the printer began printing quickly.  But it stopped 1/2 way through the document and nothing happened for around 60 seconds.  Then it ejected the unfinished page.     I checked the printer screen - clicked apps - it says:  Server connection error: -1  there was a problem connecting to the server.  Press retry to connect again orok to exit.

When I clicked retry it puts up the same message.  The blue light is on indicating the computer is connected.  On printer webpage, it indicates its connected.

I have a printer cable - would it help if I connected it?  How do I do that?

Am getting frustrated - and I'm afraid that even if I get a new printer, its not going to work.

Thank you for your clear and easy to follow instructions btw!

It's a computer issue - I tried setting up the printer so I could print from my ipad and it worked fine.  Something is wrong with the computer - even though I downloaded the new drivers.  The problem remains the same - starts printing, and then pauses for around 60 seconds and ejects the unfinished page.   Shows that the  printer is paused.  When I click resume, it does the same thing again.

Hi @susan859c,

I reviewed the post compressively. Excellent troubleshooting, great effort and splendid persistence to try and get the issue resolved.

As @Dvortex is out of office for the day,  As you've tried all the steps and the Ipad seems to work fine, You've clearly hit the nail on its head. The MAC computer is the culprit here.

Please reset the MAC printing system again.

Then please use the built-in drivers of MAC (Airprint) and check if the computer prints. Please follow the steps from HP Printers - Printing with Apple AirPrint (iOS)

This should do the trick for you. If it does not, please backup all your important files and reinstall the MAC operating system. Then install the printer software and drivers. That should resolve the issue. Please do this only as a last resort.

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care now and have a splendid week ahead.
