Hello...needing to print urgently (this is always when the printer has a problem)...we only use the black ink so the colours are not needed. They are all in there though. The error message on the printer screen is 'one or more cartridges appear to be missing or damaged etc etc...'
I have cleaned the yellow cartridge as the message suggests. Everything is put back carefully and fully. Turned it all on and off and on...the error message is still there...new black ink cartridge installed.
How do I by-pass this message so I can print?

Have you also tried restarting the printer? See link below...

If that doesn't work I'd suggest contacting HP phone support as you may require a replacement cartridge. You can first check the warranty ends date on it....

Hello...thank you for your prompt reply. I have followed your instructions but the same issue continues. The black ink cartridge is new and genuine HP (2014/08)...the 3 colours are 'set up' cartridges dated 2014/09. The printer is only a few months old, bought new.
If anyone knows how to resolve this I would be most grateful. If there is no solution apart from buying new colour cartridges that we do use as we only use black, then I would be very disappointed.
There must be a simple solution to this simple problem.
I am in the UK.
