Hi @pjh4242,

Welcome to HP Forums,

this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand you are getting an E4 error message on your HP DeskJet 3630 printer, don't worry, though, as I have a few steps which should help to resolve the issue.

During printing the printer stops feeding pages and the control panel displays an alternating 'E' and '4', and the Error icon (), Paper Error icon (), and Ink Alert light blink. This indicates that paper might be jammed inside the printer.

Note: Paper jams can be real or false. The printer might report a paper jam even when there is no jammed paper. The following steps apply to both real and false paper jams.

Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a Hard reset on the printer.

* With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

* Remove USB cable, if present.

* Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

* Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

* Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

* Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test document and check if it works.

I have found a wonderful document which should help to resolve this issue - An 'E4' Error Displays (Paper Jam) - Click here

I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes for further assistance. I'll be more than happy to help.

Hi I have tried everything you sent me and it still won't work. Do you have a return department so you could have a look at it. This is very annoying as I have only had it for a short period. I have always used HP printers but it looks like they are starting to loose the performance like the old models. Cheap manufacturing doesn't mean quality.
Sorry for the rant but I need this solving.

Regards
Paul

Hi @TattooedLynz,

Thanks for posting in the HP community.:) A very good day to you :)!  I read the post about the printer having jams and stopped feeding paper with the E4 error message. I will be delighted to assist you here. 🙂

You’ve done an excellent job on diagnosing the issue from your end. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂 We greatly value your relationship with HP.

You are a valued HP customer and we appreciate you greatly for doing business with HP. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better, I would require more information regarding this:

  • Have you bypassed power strips?
  • Have you tried to do a hard reset?

For now please try these steps from this link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-deskjet-3630-all-in-one-printer-series/7172306/document/c0459...

If you’ve tried all these steps, the printer has a hardware issue and needs to be serviced or replaced.

To do this, please contact H phone support by following these steps:

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number, Case number and phone number appear.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. I'm always there to assist you. Please reach out anytime. 🙂

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.

If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂
