Is Direct PDF print availabe for HP laserjet 3005D ?

Our java application sends PDF document directly to the printer but it does not print or provide any error messages. If i save that document, open it in adobe and print it then it prints fine.

We use to have HP laserjet 2420 PCL5E printer and we never had any issues directly printing pdf from our java application.

Do we have to install some drivers  to enable direct  PDF print for HP laserjet 3005D?

Thanks

The specifications (e.g. see http://www.fastprinters.com/pdf/HP-P3005.pdf ) for the LaserJet 3005 series do not show Direct-PDF as one of the supported languages.

I just printed out the configuration page for both printers Hp Laserjet P3005 and Hp Laserjet 2420 and in Installed Personalites and Options section I see they both have PDF in the listing.

Hp 2420:     PDF (20021216)

Hp P3005:  PDF (20050131)

I even updated the firmware and installed PCL5 and PCL6 drivers and still it doesn't print pdf through java application.

The memory section for P3005 shows 128 MB and for 2420 it shows 320MB.

am I missing some thing ?

I wanted to attach the configuration page but the reply section doesn't have the option for attachments.

The specification sheet I referred to earlier doesn't mention Direct-PDF, but the User Guide manual http://h20628.www2.hp.com/km-ext/kmcsdirect/emr_na-c00744954-2.pdf does.

Some printers only support Direct-PDF when they have at least 128MB of memory (which your configuration shows you have).

Direct-PDF will probably only support PDF version 1.4 or earlier, and will not support encrypted or password-protected files.

I'm assuming that the Personality on the printer is set to Auto, which should mean that the printer will automatically switch to the appropriate Page Description Language interpreter after examing the header of a (correctly formatted) print job.

You could perhaps, as a test, change the Personality to PDF (which means that it will only accept PDF jobs) to see whether or not this makes any difference.

Have you tried (recently) sending your PDF data direct to any other (PDF-enabled) printer to prove that it still works?

I note that you did say that you used to do this OK to a LaserJet 2420.

I set the Personality to PDF and still it did not work..

I dont know what else to try now. Any more suggestions ?

Does it make any difference if you set the PRINT PDF ERRORS option to ON (rather than OFF) in the CONFIGURE DEVICE | PRINT menu?

Set pdf errors to on . Printed from Msword again no problem. Printed pdf from Adobe reader with no problem.

If you want I can send the configuration page for both printers (3005 and 2420) so that you can see what is missing, but I don't find a feature here to attach documents.

So did you get an error reported when you 'sent' a PDF via your Java application? Or what?

If you scan these pages (producing an image file such as  .png), you should be able to attach and embed the image, using the Insert/edit image button:

Capture.PNG

However, I'm not at all sure whether these configuration reports will provide any clue as to the cause of your problem.

Have you tried 'sending' the content of a third-party .pdf file direct to your printer (rather than via your Java/PDF mechanism)?

How you do this would depend on how the printer is connected (LPT1, USB, Ethernet).

What PDF version is used with these documents? Use menu item File | Properties on Adobe Reader to show this; e.g.:

Capture_01.PNG

I have not tested that, I will test it and let you know. Actually the printer is at the client side that is why it is taking soo much time for me to do these tests.

The Java application is creating the pdf document as well, so I have to send it through the java application.

I have attached the document properties and the configurations for both printers:

Yes, but have you (as I asked before) tried sending a third party PDF file direct to the printer, to try to confirm whether or not the printer actually supports Direct-PDF.

It may be that your Java application is generating a PDF format which the Direct PDF interpreter in the printer can't handle - it is perhaps unlikely that the LJ 3005D supports a PDF version later than 1.4.

I can't see your three images yet - they just appear as white squares, each containg a yellow-filled, rounded-corner triangle with a grey outline.

I think that this is because your images have to be 'approved' first, and this can take some time.
