HP laserjet p4015dn
Windows 7
I'm getting a 51.10 error on a HP 4015 I service, which is usually a laser assy faliure. I changed the laser, with no change to the error.

The customer that uses it also said something about it making a loud grinding noise, I heard that in the warm up before the error occured, this ended up being the toner drive motor and gear. Changed both of those, and crossed my fingers this was the issue with the 51.10 error, unfortunately it wasn't, but did fix the noise issue.

Anyone have an idea what else could be throwing this code?

The procedures below must be followed before replacing any parts:

  1. Restart the printer and check if the error occurs during boot up. If the error appears when performing an engine test, check the engine test printout. If the printout is white, the laser scanner is damaged.

  2. From the control panel of the printer, go to the DIAGNOSTICS menu and run the laser/scanner motor component test. Verify that you can hear the motor rotate.

    1. If you cannot hear the motor rotate, then replace the laser scanner assembly.

    2. If the error persists, replace the DC Controller.

What should you look at if you have replaced both the laser/scanner and the dc controller and still get the 51.10 error?

HP Recommended
  • If you cannot hear the motor rotate, verify that the connections to connector J86 and connector J93 on the DC controller PCA are firmly seated.
  • Verify that the wiring harness at the laser scanner assembly is securely attached.
