So we were told back in 11-2013 that a fix was being tested and would be posted soon. WHERE IS IT??? I have an HP D110 AA-IN-ONE and wa sscanning fine before the Mavericks update ot my Mac. Now I'm losing business and money. OK HP...time to post a fix for us. I've bought HP all my computer carrer, but I'm so angry, that I am thinking of looking at other options, and very very soon...Anyone know of a work-around? I've tried the Mac scan by way of the preview app and no go. HELP!!!!! HP employee?? Please respond.

AhAh, good luck, my friend 🙂 they will ask you if you already repaired your permissions ....

I did finally find a workaround...no thanks to HP. I went into my Macs applications and found "Image Capture" and moved it to my dock. I turned on my scanner and once it was up, my computer and the Image Capture" recognized it and I clicked on the "scan" button, which it did. Then I went up to "File" and into preview and asked that the scans be saved to "Documnets", sized them to letter size and hit save...Then i could finally go in and attach the items to my email and send it out to my clients. I first attached all 7 but it said the file was too large. Incidently, I saved as jpec, even though these were PDF type files. I then sent them one at a time and they reached their destination just fine. This will work until one day, I go in and try the old fashioned way, using the HP scan application as I once did. Phew!!

Did you ever get your problem fixed with the scan capability of your printer missing completely?  We have an HP F4180 that used to work just fine, but after installing Mavericks, the scanner stopped working.  So, I uninstalled the printer completely, made sure Software Updates was current, and then reinstalled the printer.  Printer function installed perfectly, but there is no scan option.  It just doesn't see it.

There you go!   As far as I know HP is the only manufacturer and vendor of Printers and scanners for which Mavericks is a problem. So clearly the problem is theirs--not Apple's--, and the ball is in their court, especially since the symptoms run the gamut of their pinters-scanners.   For some unstated reason (bad blood between HP and Apple at the corporate level?) they absolutely stonewall any plea to fix the problems.  We need to keep this discussion on the public stage ... if it starts hurting, perhaps they will do something.  However, I fear that this is a lost cause.

Thanks a lot.  I had done that in the past, but thought I would give it the old college try again.  I followed their instructions to the letter, including "empty the trash" for which I am sorry, and of course I fin myself with a machine which prints, and scans using inferior software, and my version of HPScan that worked well under OSX9.0 but not at all under Mavericks, has now disappeared.

There is a sucker born every minute, and I am red-faced for beleiving (hoping) that the problem had at long last been solved, in spite of ample evidence that HP has no interest in doing so.  What a disappointment.

I finally got mine to work by downloading the entire HP driver catalog.  The instructions appear in another post.  The scanner option doesn't work from the printer/scanner, but I can import items into Preview.  Better than nothing!

This is a very unelegant workaround. For one thing, you cannot save multiple pages into one scan. Second, I couldn't see the options that allowed me to save the doc as a PDF. Had to right click my mouse, choose "Open Adobe Acrobat Professional" then save the document. Then I had to merge the pages into one document.

Really disappointed in both Apple and HP that they could not have anticipated this prior to the release of Mavericks.

Thanks! It worked.
