The problem seems to be the WIA service not starting properly during the Windows loading. Restarting it always fixes the problem for me but Zap1340's suggestion to set the service to manual start works well because the service only starts when the printer is turned on, after Windows has finished loading.

So my scanner works on all my devices except my laptop with Windows 11 (it worked before upgrade), I spent 2 hours on the phone with an HP remote technician and he gave up. So I use HP App and when I select Scan it goes through all the motions and the scanner appears to scan then the software crashes and closes.
The only way I can scan is to use a web browser and browse to the IP address of the scanner and there's a scan control there which lets me scan and this does work.
So unless HP update the Smart App I don't think this will ever be fixed.

HP please fix!! I follow instructions and can get the printer to scan once through HP App and then errors on subsequent scans. I tried two other scanning programs and they all have errors.

To the HP Support Agents... please read the posts.
most of them say:
- after updating to win 11... so yes, it's after updating to windows 11
- the copy and print options work fine... so yes, the other functions work fine.
- it's for a wide range of printer-scanners, not only for one single printer
it's the driver for those different printers that apparently no longer support the scanning function.
please provide us with working drivers to continue to use the scanner option!

Sadly, this didn't work for me, I don't think this will ever work until HP Update the HP App, which has never been updated for many years. They're not even considering Windows 11.
