Yep, this did it (although I didn't have a standalone uninstaller for Officejet Pro 8740, nor was I able to download HP Easy Start [only available for Windows on HP support site, but Easy Admin worked]). Thanks!!!!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to get this right! Worked like a charm. It happened to me after I upgraded my MAC OS from Mojave  to Catalina, which caused a few apps to self-destruct. Thanks, again. You did really well!

Be sure and follow all instructions, including removing to trash the previous HP software and HPDM framework files. Restart your computer THEN download and install new software and drivers.

With Catalina, Apple no longer accepts 32 bit apps.  Here is  Apple's explanation.  Canon was able to do a work around for its DR -C225.  No word if HP will do so.
