This may not be for a question but rather for those that are attempting to find a workaround to the same problem I had.
I had scanned a document that I thought was going to be saved fine by the HPScan Software. The paper was scanned by the HPScan Software and produced an image that was satisfactory. However, when I attempted to save the file to a local folder, the HPScan software froze and was not resulting in me being able to save the scan itself. In typical fashion, I trusted that there was no way after the scan was completed, that I would have an issue saving the scan to my local computer and I wound up shredding the document. Then this happened.
I have seen a number of posts that are on the HP Communities forum that are similar to mine but the replies state that there is no temporary directory of the scan and that once the program freezes, all is lost. I would like to respond to that and state that I was able to successfully retrieve the temporary scanned pages from my Local User Temp directory under a folder beginning with "hpscanxxxxx" (not knowing what the numbers -xxxxxx- mean after hpscan). I know that this is a temp folder location and is prone to be removed or cleaned up, but if you are using the HPScan Software, it more than likely will make a temporary storage for you....at least until the computer reboots or until a period of time elapses when that folder is cleaned up.
In my case, I was able to retrieve a copy of the scanned paper that was already shredded by going to my %localappdata%/Temp folder and looking for the "hpscanxxxxxx" folder...which had my scans for the previous hung session.
In case there are issues with the mentioned variable, the location for you should be (assuming that the system drive letters are the same):
C:\Users\<YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp\hpscan18560
Thanks and good luck!
