I am trying to change the scanning resolution on my Macbook Pro. I do not see the dropdown menu which is mentioned above. Where is it?

Hi Ptychodus,

Sorry to hear you are having problems.

I have added a link to the post by PCWizard.  The first line of his post indicates that you need to open the icon on your desktop that is labeled Officejet Pro 8600, then click on 'Scan a Document or Photo'.

I appreciate the effort, but alas your response did not answer my problem. I can not find the icon labelled Officejet Pro 8600 on my desktop. When I search my mac, I do not find it. I have an icon on my dock which is labelled HP Scan. When I open this, I see headings, HP Scan, File, Edit, Batch, View, Window and Help. None of these leads to the drop down window you describe and when I search Help and there is nothing about how to change the resolution of the scan.

Hi Ptychodus,

Thank you for the quick response.

If you are unable to find the icon did you install the full feature software? I have added a link on how to install your full feature software.  As I didn't know what version of Mac OS X you are running or if you are connected by USB, ethernet or wirelessly I gave you the link that covers the various options.

Hopefully we are getting there.  As far as I know, I downloaded all the software originally. Alas, none of the options you gave me describe my situation. I have OS X 10.6.8 and am already connected wirelessly. The only driver I see in the options you gave for OS X 10.6 mention a USB connection.

Hi Ptychodus,

Thanks for the quick response and for your patience.  Try this document on setting it up wirelessly.  It has a section dedicated to Mac OS X 10.6.

Did you manage to scan at 4800 dpi? How exactly did you do it?

HP Recommended

300 DPI is the max offered through the document feeder. Using the flatbed offers up to 4800 dpi.

I am trying to reduce the size of my pdf files for uploading to an online program.  The company would like me to scan at 200 dpi and in black in white.  I used the desktop program as detailed in these messages and saved my document however the person on the other end says that they are coming to them as color 650 dpi.  Can you please help?

HP Recommended

Natalie, I am no expert on this but you should be getting a dialogue box as shown in Message 4 of this thread. You should have it set on Black and White and 200 dpi.
