Hi - just hooked up an awesome new Laserjet Pro 1606dn.  I am using an Airport Express to hook it into home wireless network. I had an HP Laserjet 1012 hooked up the same way and it worked fine.  I am able to find and configure the new printer via Bonjour from my Windows 7 laptop and desktop, but when I print a document it prints multiple copies continuously (forever if I let it) - the document does not disappear from the queue!

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi, you can try turning off the "Enable bidirectional support" in Ports option.

Thanks for the response - that solved the multiple copy issue.  But now the printer is acting strange.  When I go to print a 2-sided pdf file it skips certain pages - pages 1, 3, 5 show up blank (nothing printed); pages 2, 4, 6, 7, 8 print fine.  If I print the same file as 1-sided, all pages come out fine.

The printer works fine if plugged directly into one of my PCs.  Is Bonjour a less-than-reliable interface between my PCs and the printer?  Are there any secret tricks to getting it to work better?

Thanks again for any help.  I'd hate to have to return the printer.

I don't see why you should have to use Bonjour to connect to the printer, especially since you're using a Windows computer. Try downloading and installing the Full Software for your printer and see if it helps. Make sure to delete the current printer icon before starting the installation.

Thank you for the response.  I downloaded and ran the software again but my Windows 7 PC cannot "find" the printer on the network.  That was why I was using Bonjour (the printer is plugged into an Apple Airport Express) - Bonjour is able to find the printer on the network.

I've continues to futz around and now know the following:

The printer works perfect if I am printing from my wife's Macbook.

The printer prints Word documents fine from my PC (both single and two-sided)

The printer prints pdf files fine from my PC but only if it is one-sided

The printer goes haywire when I try to print pdf files two-sided from my PC

Is the printer connected to the Airport router by USB or ethernet?

USB.  Should I try ethernet?

Thanks!

We just bought a 1606dn for network printing.

It keeps printing multiple copies, when connected through the conventional "Add Printer" option in Windows 7.

I was able to solve this problem only by copying the full contents of the CD to the local system and installing the printer through that HP full installation package.

Is there anyway to solve the multiple copies issue while connecting through "Add Printer" option, because we have to install this printer in multiple systems and it is time consuming to copy the contents of the CD to each and every individual system and do the installation from it.

PS: i also tried selecting the drivers from the CD through "Have Disk" option while connecting through "Add Printer". But it kept printing multiple copies.

I had faced similar problem, but found that the problem was restricted to PC's running Windows 7. So I downloaded the generic drivers from HP site and installed them on all Windows 7 PC, and the issue was resolved. The drivers can be downloaded from the following URL
