Hi gabbyto,
Can you make a copy when you place the document on the glass?

I also am having trouble with my 1536dnf, it won't initialize at all. Power is good, directly into a dedicated outlet. It worked OK for ~18months, but now won't come up. When powered on, it makes noise, and sometimes shows "Hewlett-Packard" on the display, but then just sits there. Would a cold reset help?
Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,
If you are getting a noise when you turn the printer on you will need to remove the toner cartridge, and then let me know if you still experience the same noise?

Hi gabbyto,
Have you tried updating the firmware on this printer?

Hi sewing4512,
It appears that the toner cartridge is broken or damaged. As far as the printer not Initializing sounds like you are having some other hardware related issues. Below are a couple links for warranty service and out of warranty service.
