I tried. Unfortunately the Setup Assistent crashes and I get the message that "HP Setup Assistant quit unexpectedly."

Well you will have to fix that in order to continue forward.

Well I'm open to suggestions. I sure don't know how to fix it. It's software from the original CD, and there is no download available from the HP web site. And I have a brand new OS on the Mac.

Suggest you may have to call HP for assistance.

Ok. Thanks for your suggestions.

To follow up, I tried to contact HP support and was informed that this printer is no longer supported.

Anyone have any other suggestions, they would be welcome. Thanks.

Just to close out this saga, I'll report on how I fixed my problem. Fortunately, in addition to my Mac, my wife has a PC laptop. I used the PC to access the HP support website and downloaded the latest printer installation software, and launched it. As part of the install you are asked if you want to set up the printer for wireless, and in that process you set the SSID, which was the original problem. So it's all set now, and I can see it from the Mac.

But recall that I could not do that same thing on the Mac. There was no software to download for a Mac on the HP support website, and the old installation software that came with the printer crashed when trying to set up wireless access. So there was no way to talk to the printer to set the SSID. And finally, when I tried to contact HP support to talk to them I was informed that they no longer supported my printer. I think this may speak to a lack of adequate support on HP's part for us Mac users, and that's unfortunate!
