When I check the box in printer preferences for tw0sided printing, it also checks the box for two-sided printing manually.  When I un-check the manual box, it unchecks the two-sided printing box as well.  How can I get my printer to do two-sided printing without having to do it manually?

Hello hsgoldman.

I see that you would like to enable automatic two-sided printing on your Laserjet Pro 400.

I found a document that details how to enable this function in Windows. I've included a link to this document and to your product's support page for your reference.

Automatically print on both sides with Windows

Please let me know if this helps.

Hi Chauntain,

Unfortunately, the solution does not work.  However, it's not your mistake,  but mine.  Though I check the boxes as instructed in the link you sent, which I had already tried before, I now see that my new printer is an M401n, and I do not see that it can print two-sided automatically!  I've now read the User Manual, and without something called a "duplex unit", I don't see what I can do except return the printer and order a different one.  I had no idea from the specs I read that this would be a problem with this model.  It seems that only the models with "d" after the 400 can print automatically.  If you have another proposal, I would love to hear it.  It is so difficult to get adeauate information on these things from the documentation that HP provides.

thanks so much,

The link in this answer looked like it was going to work. However, it doesn't seem to be valid. It brings me to a page where 0 results are returned.

I've had this printer for almost 2 years and have yet to be able to get it to print on both sides. If I select print on both sides it never does. I'm just trying to find a way to get it to print on both sides. I would love to find the solution. Perhaps a driver update? If it's something as simple as setting it up in windows, I'm all ears/eyes.
