@Mcelwaic

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand you need assistance to change the source from "document feeder" to "Flatbed"  in order to allow for 11 x 17 scanning,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Have you installed the full feature software for your printer?

Is this the first time you are attempting to scan a legal size document or 11x17?

While you respond to that, here's what you need to know:

NOTE: Make sure that the full feature printer software is installed, and that the printer is turned on and connected to the computer with a USB cable, a wired (Ethernet) network cable, or through a wireless network connection.

Step one: Load the original document

You can scan from the scanner glass or from the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) tray.

NOTE: The ADF tray does not support 11 x 17 in (279 x 432 mm) paper. Use the scanner glass to scan using this size paper.

  • Scanner glass: Place the document with the print side down on the scanner glass, and then position it according to the engraved guides around the glass (on the back-left corner). Close the scanner lid.

  • ADF: Place the document into the document feeder tray. The printed side faces up and the top edge goes into the tray first. Adjust the width guides to fit the document.

Step two: Select the paper size, and then scan the document

Follow these steps to set the paper size and then scan the document in Windows or Mac OS X.

Good Luck.
