DeskJet Ink Advantage 4515
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

I can see that "Scan to Computer" is enabled in the HP Utility Screen (showing Green Button)

To get here I followed the reset printer and repair drive procedures as it was showing a red button previously

I also downloaded the latest drivers

Although the "all in one" recognises my MacBook Air and I can bring up the scan screen through the print/scan option, any attempt to actually scan is met with an "unable to connect" message

Can you please advise

Thanks

Hi @HattersFan,

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums for a solution to your connection issue when scanning.

I understand that you are using an HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 4515 e-All-in-One Printer with a Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan computer and when you try to scan it says "unable to connect". I would like to help with that.

You mentioned that you would like to know where to Manage Scan to Computer.

1. While in Finder menu on your Mac, click Go in the top menu bar, click Applications, double-click the HP folder, then double-click HP Utility.

2. Click All Settings, click Scan to Computer, then select the box next to Enable Scan to Computer.

If you are still having connection issues try following the steps in this support document - Network Scanner Connection is Lost (Mac).

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

In fact, if this helps you to reach a solution please click the "Accept as Solution", and the "thumbs up" buttons down below in this message. 🙂

Many thanks for your update

I have tried all of the options you have provided and I am still having this issue.

Essentially the "Scan to Computer" shows as green and i can print wirelessly.

The issue is when I use the console on the printer to "Scan to MacBook Air" or if i use the "Scan"page on the Printer settings page (Via System Preferences).

The console states that "The computer is not responding........" and the MacBook Air screen briefly shows a preparing to scan update with progress bar that does not go blue.

The Scan settings section brings up the black scan box but when i hit scan it shows "The scanner failed to complete the scan".

Can you please advise further?

Thanks

Hi @HattersFan,

Thanks for getting back to me.

After 'Step 7: Reset the print system' from the document supplied above, when you were adding the printer back to the Printers and Scanners window, did you switch the driver from the AirPrint Driver to the HP Deskjet 4515 series' driver?

If you did I would uninstall the printer's software by following the steps in this document - Uninstalling the Printer Software (Mac).

Next, download and install the HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 4510 e-All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers

If you require material for reference during the installation process, this support document can help - Wireless Printer Setup (OS X).

Please let me know how it goes.
