I also was told by Tech Support that no replacement printheads were available and was asked if I'd like to be transferred to the sales dept. Hmm... I passed on that opportunity and dug a little deeper. Go into the HP website and look for the part on your own. For my Officejet 6500 e709n it was part # CN643A and it was in stock. It took 3 - 4 days for standard delivery.

Yes you're right, some printheads can be purchased at the HP Part Store (link below)

Usually if the printer is in warranty the printhead will be replaced without any cost. Before you buy the printhead call up technical support once.
However try these steps if the printer is out of warranty

Please call our technical support. If the printer is in warranty you will surely get the printhead replaced. Seems to be quiet common issue with these photosmart series printers but however after the printheads been replaced most of the issues have been resolved. Please care to call
