Recentliy upgraded software on HP Officejet 5740 Series wireless printer in my office.  Now the scans are going to a .jpg format and not a .pdf format.  How do I restore the scan format to PDF?

Hi,

Please select Scan document. By default printer will scan all documents as PDF files and photos as jpg files. Where do you scan from ? From computer or from printer ?

The default on the printer has changed to .jpg and I cannot change it when saving a document from the laptop.  When I use a flash drive  (plugged directly into the printer) to save a document, I get a screen that allows me to select pdf but the default is jpg.  I am unable to change the format when I save to the laptop.  How can I change the default inside the software loaded on the computer for the format only?  I prefer not to reset to the factory default if I don't have to.

Hi @MimiJac,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.  Apologies for jumping in here.

Can you try this alternative Scan solution :

HP Scan Extended

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"

You should be able to use "Save as PDF" in the Scan function.  Example shown below.

Hope that helps!
